Does anyone know what kind of machine gun Charlton Heston is using when it jams in the final scene of "The Omega Man"? I don't know the answer, just curious.

S&W M76 SELECTIVE FIRE SMG REPLICA MODEL GUN FROM MGC OF JAPAN
You are viewing an incredibly detailed and very rare model replica of a M76 smg. A little history of this gun is as follows:
When the Swedes cutoff export of their M45 series SMG to the Americans as a result of our involvement in the Viet Nam war, special operations operators looked around for a replacement. What they found was a U.S. built, re-engineered version of the Karl Gustav M45D called the Model 76. Smith marketed the SMG to both the U.S. military and civilian law enforcement agencies. Limited numbers were used by Navy SEAL Teams and by other special operations forces. However, the gun did not sell well and was eventually dropped from the S&W line by the mid-1970s. S&W did not copyright the M76 and another series of private manufacturers marketed the gun in both 9mm NATO and .45 ACP as the MK 760.
The detailed model you see here is basically a very, very sophisticated cap gun. When the trigger is pulled, the bolt slams the round down into the breach firing pin, which in turn ignites a small cap/primer that fits into the brass “cartridge” provided, which in turn cycles the slide to blowback, eject the spent casing, then chamber another “round” to repeat the process. The caps are not included in this auction per eBay mandates. The 9 brass cartridges provided are empty and totally inert but even without the caps can be hand cycled through the breach with the pull of the bolt. The replica is a beauty in design with attention to the smallest details. Features all metal swing out locking stock, metal trigger and internals, metal bolt charging handle, steel magazine with spring loaded follower, metal butt cap, full breakdown as on a real M76, threaded ventilated barrel shroud, 9 rounds of inert blowback brass (caps not included) metal magazine “flap” release, metal selector/safety and more! Check out the detailed pictures below and see what we are talking about! Pictures are of the exact replica being auctioned with full logos, serial numbers and tooling marks. Body is made of tough Urethane with a matte black phosphate style finish. This SMG model is in excellent unfired shape with only the minor/light surface handling marks. It functions flawlessly and has no signs of damage anywhere. Our first of this model in some time actually... so bid on it now if ya like it!

Goddamn it you guys are fast. Hey is there a link to that eBay item? I had no idea I could actually own one! Probably can't afford it anyway.

I had a few of those blowback models when I was in High School. They are VERY detailed and for the most part assemble like the real thing. However, getting them to work was a royal PIA with lots of nights spent carefully sanding and polishing plastic feed ramps and smoothing chambers. Loading the 'blanks' was also a time consuming job, especially the two-part cartridges.

Ended up 'modifying' the disconector on most of them to make machine pistols. Eventually they all broke some important part. Used to order them through a company called Collector's Armory. Company still exists, but they don't carry the models they used to.

It was just that "In Case Of Zombies, Break Glass" post that got me thinking...
