.....shoot and kill one

Odd story. Apparently the Pastor didn't want help.

"When the two unfortunate drivers got to the dry land, at least one of them allegedly attacked the officers and was shot and killed, AP reports."

and the troopers we “worried about them getting swept away,”

Good thing they shot and killed him before he got swept away. He might have died.....oh wait....

Why does nobody realize that if you try and assault a police officer, you will probably get shot/killed?

I don't agree with it and I think this killing was unjust but.... think of it this way.

If someone charged at you, would you draw your weapon?

If someone pushed you would you draw and fire?

They released the dash cam. Apparently the 'peaceful' pastor had a bit of a violent string. Not saying it should have ended the way it did, but he definitely took down the deputy.

Guys were trying to get their vehicle out of the water and Johnny Law ordered them to stop. Saving themselves from themselves. LEOs inserting themselves where they don't need to be. I'm kind of numb to these stories now. I wouldn't be surprised to read about more LEO ambushes if this continues.

according to the troopers he knocked him to the ground and held his head under water...if that's true I have no problem with the shooting...too bad it's not on the dash cam for proof.

You physically fight an armed LEO there is a good chance you're gonna get shot. My problem was with the LEOs putting themselves in that situation.

Like me throwing a rock at a bear, having the bear charge me, and me killing the bear. "Well he charged me..."

They have no duty to protect you or your property but apparently have a duty to prevent us from doing so.

I just love this place, more information comes out, everyone loads up for bear on the messenger.

The guy took the LEO to the ground, so let me ask you, if someone takes you to the ground, knowing you have a sidearm on, would you just let the guy beat you down?

This was a case of stupidity rolling down a hill, at some point it's going to hit hard.

Again, I'm not arguing why he was killed. My issue is the LEOs injecting themselves in the first place.

Is that any clearer?

Well.......I'd fight back.
Maybe I'm in the minority here, but in a 1v1 street fight (bare fists) I'm not pulling out my gun...I'm sorry.
I do see the argument on why you would, but I would not. Being extremely outnumbered or any weapons shown from the "opponent" is a whole different ball game.

I would bet that whatever hand to hand combat training officers get, it's more than "step back, shoot attacker"

Nah I'm with you unless Andre the giant takes a swing at me I'm getting into a fight 100 out of 100 times it's too much fun to pass up. If a very large man i.e over 6'8 and over 250 pounds then we might switch to guns but for normal people fists first. And there were more cops there and they have night sticks and those telescoping batons which I can't remember name of at the moment. Start swinging those you really don't need to kill everyone you run into.

On the cops side of the coin it's a flood high stress situation... you live in oklahoma. Your the rookie you know you gotta wade your ads across the river to hitch up the truck. Shoot him get a paid vacation and get the hell outta oklahoma.

But seriously yes they should fight with hands and use guns at the last possible moment but uhh have you not watched the news for a while the cops are going to shoot don't attack them not that hard of a concept.

Ah, nope, no shoot. I'll take my chances and fight. Hand to hand stays hand to hand.

Yes, there is always the chance he is also armed and he'd shoot me first if I end up on top of him, but it only shows the complexity and the duality of the law when applied to the special class or to civilians.
Our lives as citizens are worth less, period.

Also, when and how the hell did this become a "guy swings at you, shoot him?" world (leaving LEO out of it) .

I've lived among some real low class savage morons way back when, and the one thing I noticed is that almost any minor altercation quickly ended up with some kind of weapons involved - broken beer bottles, box cutting knifes, pocket knives, keys tucked within a fist, bricks, you name it.

Funny as it may sound, in a civilized society, you keep a fist fight to a fist fight. If that's what it's going to be - someone gains an advantage on you so you pop three into his liver - that's pretty ****ed up.
