Romney is about to annouce he is bailing out in what is arguably a misguided run for the presidency.

For those of us remaining in this wonderful state....what is our future?

The six-letter word, T-m R----y is certainly running.

On the GOP side who the hell knows and what difference does it make anyway?

Romney couldn't get anything done for gun-owners (not that he tried)...who thinks Muffy Healy could either???? Does anyone know her position on "gun control?"

The bottom line is: Let's assume R----y is the next Governor. Are things going to be worse for law-abiding gun owners or the same or better??

Keep in mind..he is going to have a lot more to worry about than just guns.

Do you think that will remain a priority for him or is it just a priority now in order to get him elected????

This is going to be an interesting few years in any event.
:)

He may be dropping out this year, but doesn't mean he isn't eyeing the possible run in 2012. Sounds crazy, but the cost of elections now has regulated it to that of the rich. I mean, how many of them would run if they where paid just enough to cover basic expenses and live like normal folk instead of kinks?

I'm figuring not many.

Well Romney is better than Reilly. What we need is a concerted effort to oust some of the Socialist/Fascists Democrats from the house and senate so that we can bring some common sense back to the birthplace of America!

I have been pondering this question all afternoon. I think that if Riley were elected gov, we would see some kind of Draconian gun control law passed. (How about a scenario where fellow Dem Mumbles ends up as Secretary of Public Safety [evil] ).

On the other hand, I do not see K.H. being a big friend of gun owners. Given her academic background in Criminal Justice studies, I suspect that she probably favors some kind of gun control, although I don't see pursuing an anti-gun agenda the way Riley does.

K.H. would be no better or no worse than any of the other GOP govs we have had since Dukakis stepped down as the last Dem gov.

While this is hardly an original thought, I expect the Democrats to gain some offices nationally in 2006 and perhaps capture the corner office up at the State House. If that happens and Riley ends up as gov, then as far as gun laws go, to quote the late vaudeville and early movie entertainer, Al Jolson: "You ain't seen nothing yet."

Staring at that half empty glass,

Mark

I seem to remember that Romney got a fairly poor rating from the NRA. Or maybe it was GOAL. It's a bit odd that since about 1990, the voters have consistently elected Republicans to the Governor's office. Republicans have made little to no progress in this state other than that.

On the plus side, Attorney's General don't seem to do to well as candidates for Governor. Reilly's problem is, that as they say about Chuck Schumer, he calls out his own name when he's having sex.

Hopefully the voters will see him for what he is.

I don't know Gary, these are the same people that keep Mumbles, Kerry, and Kennedy in office.

What you have to keep in mind is that we can't expect anyone substantial to run against Reilly . . . not in his own party or in the RINO party!

Reilly is going to get the corner office in a "slow walk". That is the exact reason why he announced so early . . . this works to "convince" other potential candidates not to butt heads with him and to rally to his side. It is a very effective political tactic used by many of the politically astute.

I think Reily's support for FREE college education for children of illegal aliens will doom his candidacy. Even in liberal Massachusetts, most regular people who have to save for years to put their kids through school will not look favorably on Reily's proposal. I may actually get involved in the political process next year to help defeat Reily, if he emerges as a front runner.

I wish Bill Weld would come back.

The AG's also in favor of homosexual marriage. Most polls indicate that people don't mind civil unions, but they don't like marriage.

Be careful of what you ask for.

To be sure, Tom Reilly has earned the disapproval of gun owners. But the Republicans are headed on a course of effectively giving away the gubernatorial race, leaving a choice of Tom Reilly or Deval Patrick. As between the two, you don't want Patrick.

Here's a question for you:

Who are the good guys going to put up for Rielly's spot? It is concievable the next AG could have more to do with changes in gun laws than the Gov.

Don't hold your breath Matt. It's possible that the next AG might...might be willing to get rid of the a-hole's CMR 16.whatever the number is, but I'm not gonna hope too much for it.

s/he might not make it better. s/he also might not make it worse, like a Rielly wannabe would: "Hey Ma! look what I did! I made gun ownership yet more difficult in MA!"

The next AG will be Martha Coakley, current DA in Middlesex County.

There is a "progression" of Middlesex County DA -> AG in this state, and it is not a pretty picture. Martha blames all crime in Middlesex County on guns, and she will also work tirelessly to screw legal gun owners in MA!

She's a shoe-in, again announced very early to scare others away.

The RINOs don't have any good candidates to offer for AG or Gov, unfortunately!

I like Mitt, but frankly I;ve been dissapointed with Bush on a number of issues. Mitt it too willing to compromise and call a spade something else. We need a hardliner. Liberal policies and ideas are moronic. They are wrong on the gun issue and most other issues.

Martha Coakley is actually from North Adams. In that part of the Commonwealth, people (to the extent you can generalize) tend to think differently about gun ownership.

Maybe, but she's been on "this side of the border too long then", the anti-gun movement has seeped into her brain! :(
