A woman with a sweet southern accent is the sexiest on my list.

and yet a guy with a the same accent makes me want to punch him in the face. But I agree, very nice on a woman.

How is a Boston accent even still there? I know maybe five people that still legitimately have a Boston accent. Mine got beaten out of me in college when the whole class couldn't understand me when I asked my lab partner to pass me the beakah of watah.

My scientific consensus is that this proves sexy accents correlate negatively to the number of teeth one has

Too many Baaaahstn movies in the last decade. Honestly?? Boston accent is #2??? Really??? Clearly they think the fake Matt Damon Boston accent. Not the real one. I live here and it's nails on a chalkboard. I'd like the letter A stricken from the language in the Commonwealth. Millions of guys could nevah tawk agayun.

Accents serve as a way to distinguish "friends" from outsiders. I don't see the sex appeal in an accent. For instance, ethnic Swedes are pretty high on the hotness scale but cannot pronounce the letter j in English. There's also the joke about Germans and the word "squirrel." Although certain accents, like Pawtucket, Woonsocket, Warwick, and Fall River, act as an immediately signal of "proceed with caution." I've gotten to the point where I can pick out what town or region someone's from in Mass and RI.

I'm a born RI'er and I normally don't have a pronounced RI accent but certain words trigger it. At Fenway yesterday, I ordered "a can of Gansett", which confused the concessions guy. Must've sounded like "acanagansett", as if it was an H.P. Lovecraft town in South County next to Narragansett or Amagansett. Also reminded me of this line that I found:

IMHO its way thicker in people that spend little or no time outside of the "95/93 cup". And at this point it's more prevalent in the suburbs than in the city itself. There's almost weird sub-dialects of it, too, varying in thickness or otherwise.

+1, the Mass accent is very noticeable in suburban people. There's also the southern Mass people, like say Cah-vuh. The sub-types are because accent is a construct of geography + media + social class/upbringing.

I actually do think a boston accent on a female is attractive. Not in a "oh you delicate flower" sexy, but more like "Im gonna bury your face in the pillows as I plow you from behind" sexy.

There definitely is sex appeal (you could easily test this, too, by measuring brain activity while having people listen to different kinds of voices) but obviously this survey in the OPs thing is kinda pointless doesn't break down by gender or sexuality of the person being surveyed, because the results are going to be
radically different. You'd also need a stupidly high sample rate to get accurate results or you'd have to discard some of the worst outliers etc somehow.

I've met women with "boston accents" though that sound great and others that sound like they just came out of a flophouse after shooting up some heroin. There's a pretty wide spectrum there, though. [rofl]

I the last few years the most I have heard was at the Bar at Nutting Lake in Billerica. Stopped off after work with a coworker and it turned out it was karaoke night. New owners now and the place is totally redone. This was 5-7 year ago, everyone had heavy Boston accents. One guy started to sing Ice Ice Baby, but my friend and I, he grew up in Revere in the 60s and 70s and I grew up in Somerville in the 70s and 80s, shouted him down by singing Italian Ice at the top of our lungs.

The Boston and NY accents are the worst. Sound like a bunch of knuckle dragging goons to me.

Mine comes out when I’m pissed. Drop Rs like crazy.
The worst part of a “Boston” accent is when people say mine like Mayan. I didn’t know “yours” was an ancient indigenous people.

    Best accent ever.

That Bert and I Maine accent is funny, but gets old fast, when you realize they really do talk that way.
