OFFICIAL: NES BULLET CASTING SEMINAR

ON the NEGATIVE side of the equation, when you buy eBay lead ingots, you have absolutely NO ASSURANCE that you aren't getting lead contaminated with zinc, which would be worthless. Personally, I'd never buy lead off eBay for that reason. There are other places where GOOD REPUTATIONS abound, at fair prices. I'd take my lead purchases there.

Quite a few of the regulars over at castboolits.gunloads.com (the lady in CT who goes by the screen name (The Captain) is awesome and a regular supplier of ingots. Her product is 100%! Her real name is Kathie, and is easy to work with.

Also, check the Selling and Swapping area for others who are selling quality ingots. Their reputations will be obvious. And, the prices are good.

But, be very careful of FleaBay.... You can't know what you're getting.

Mr Gold, good call about the Ebay lead. I completely forgot about that option. The nice thing about most Ebay lead is that it's already smelted.

Reeg, you're in. Sounds like you've got some pretty awesome guns, too!

A friend of mine would like to join (Mike68). I'm posting this to hold his spot while he's waiting for his NES account to be approved.

Seminar is at capacity.

Fixxah, I hate to do this to you but you're on the wait list. Bob Tardy talked to me last night at the range...

Can someone bring a couple 9mm molds? I would like to work on a RN lead bullet load for my M11 that doesn't lead up the barrel.

I tried commercial lead and the barrel got horribly leaded up after one mag.

I figure with a couple different types of 9mm bullets I can also work on a proper lube for them.

I have a lee 6 cavity and i also have a Lyman single cavity 356402.
I've worked through getting 9mm to shoot well with lead. 45-45-10 tumble lube was a big help. Also making sure the bullets were hard enough so that neck tension from the brass didn't undersize it, and make sure the crimp doesn't undersize the bullet either.

everyone make sure if you have a gun you would like to get started with bring the barrel so we can slug it and get you on the right track.

I have a few 6 cav 9mm molds at my house too. (Not mine, but we can use them)

I'm going to echo what Mike said above. The more molds and sizing stations we can have for everyone, the more you'll be able to load when you get home. [mg]

Thanks for reserving a spot for me REEG. Had some trouble registering but I am ok now. Looking forward to this.

I am interested in 45acp casting.

for those interested in casting for 45 ACP, I have an awesome MP 454-200 mould that drops a 200 grain hollow point. Feels slick as can be through every gun it's run into so far.
Hollow points look awesome too.

And I have a weird 190 gr .453 bullet that looks like a nipple but shoots awesome (452488)

I can attest to this.... the nipple part. Not so much about it shooting well. ASP can't hit the broad side of a barn [rofl] and I refuse to shoot nipples from my 625

45ACP and SW40. Some 9mm to try at some point.
Your advocating bringing barrels to slug them for size. How long does it take to slug one? I'm contemplating which to bring.

What about rifle calibers? 308 projectiles would be nice. I have a new 300 BLK upper I haven't used yet. Ammo is pricey and somewhat scarce.
30-06 M2 ball for a Garand when I get desperate someday.

It takes about a minute to slug it.
Basically you take a soft lead bullet, oil it and drive it through the bore with a brass or wood dowel.
Measure the slug and you're good.

I have a 40 cal mould and a 198 grain spire point 30 cal.

This looks like a great learning opportunity, however I have a conflict. Please take me off the attendance list and bump one of the wait listed folks into active status.

The sprue tappers from Duke arrived. They look far too nice to be used as a mallet! Thanks Duke!

I have some left in Hard Maple, White Oak, Red Oak, and Maine Cherry.
All are $20 each, and can ship up to four of them for a single $6 flat rate padded envelope.
Are are made by a fellow I know in Maine. So, it's all local wood, local craftsmanship.
I don't make a lot on each one, but every penny goes into my fuel tank for my weekly trips to Mayo Clinic for ongoing chemo treatments.
Doc says that I should be done with chemo come December, so that's a lot of remaining trips to Mayo. BTW, Mayo Clinic is two hours EACH WAY from my home. That's four hours of driving every time I go there. The best specialist (in the country) for my cancer is there. I would not be alive without him.

Thanks for the plug, Michael. I'm proud and happy that you guys are carrying on my legacy of doing these cast bullet workshops, and I'm happy to donate a couple of the mold tappers for the cause.

Michael I just left the Hospital yesterday. If you are listing me as a regular participant, if it would be OK with you move me to something like helper, and give that spot to someone else. I can't make any bullets right now so if some one can cast up straight lead, pistol mix lead and rifle mix lead and wheel weights, bullets so that we can test the hardness and see how it is done that would be great. I am still planning to bringing along what I have said I would bring. Let me know if this would be a problem.

To you DukeInFlorida as a fellow cancer patient I wish you all the best on your treatments. I am still waiting on the Pathology results from just having surgery to find out if the cancer has spread, I am hoping for a good result, but will deal with what I have to.

Well i got some crappy news from the Doctor today so it looks like I will not be able to make it for the seminar which sucks. I do have the lead hardness cards printed up already if some one wants to contact me maybe we can figure something out. Sorry guys.

Very sorry to hear you can't make it. I see your post above... Not easy to deal with. If you want to do this thing one on one at a later date, don't hesitate to ask. Nothing we can't take care of on a weeknight, especially with you being so close by.

Bill first and most important get well soon and if there is anything you need please drop a line .

I have been casting for a while and have all the equipment. I more into helping others. If someone wants to they can contact to use the equipment for testing the lead hardness. 20150717_183631.jpg
all you will need is a press.

Bill,

Thank you for all of your help. Maybe I can swing in or if you're at shooting supply let me know and I'll swing by there. Take care of yourself and let us know if you need anything.
