One Less Gun: At about 10:00 PM on Wednesday, August 14, 2019, officers assigned to the Youth Violence Strike Force made an onsite arrest and recovered a loaded firearm in the area of 16 Chilcott Place in Jamaica Plain. While on patrol in the area of 2030 Columbus Avenue, officers observed an individual known to them from prior interactions. Officers had received information that the male may be in possession of a firearm. Officers exited their vehicle and approached the male who immediately turned his back to officers before walking away from the vehicle. The male, who was wearing a fanny pack, quickened his pace and began sprinting away from the officers. Officers pursued the male, who jumped over several fences in an attempt to evade them. After briefly losing sight of the male, additional officers arrived on scene and set up a perimeter. The male was located in the bed of a pickup truck in the rear of 16 Chilcott Place. Officers placed the male in custody after a brief struggle. Officers observed the male to no longer be wearing the fanny pack or his shoes. As officers retraced the suspect’s path of flight, they located his sneakers in close proximity to the fanny pack. Inside of the fanny pack, officers located a Glock 19 Gen 4 SYP936 9mm firearm loaded with fifteen rounds of live ammunition.

Officers arrested Semaj Leary, 25-years-old, of Chelsea. Leary is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges of Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License 3rd Offense, Carrying a Loaded Firearm without a License, Carrying a Firearm without a License, Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, and Unlawful Possession of Ammunition.

One Less Gun: Three Firearms Recovered in Roxbury in Two Separate Incidents in Less than 24 Hours
April 12, 2015

INCIDENT #1: At about 1:00 AM on Sunday, April 12, 2015, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) responded to a radio call for shots fired in the area of Dorr Street. Officers were alerted by BPD Operations that they received several 911 calls and five gunshots had registered on shot spotter technology.

Upon arrival, officers observed a number of individuals looking out of two broken windows in the front of a residence on Dorr Street. It appeared as though these individuals were attempting to remain undetected in the house. Officers recovered five 9mm shell casings outside of the residence. Due to the calls for shots fired, the shell casings on the ground, and the broken windows, the totality of the circumstances dictated that the officers perform a protective sweep of the residence to ensure that no victims were located inside. Although officers heard movement of people inside when they knocked and announced their presence, no one would open the door. Officers made a forced entry and found approximately 20 people inside the apartment. A protective sweep did not reveal any victims, but officers did recover a Kel Tec 9mm semi-automatic firearm in the back hallway.

All occupants of the apartment were identified and released. The Boston Police Department is actively investigating the facts and circumstances surrounding this incident. Anyone with information is strongly urged to contact District B-2 Detectives at (617) 343-4275.

Community members wishing to assist this investigation anonymously can do so by calling the CrimeStoppers Tip Line at 1 (800) 494-TIPS or by texting the word ‘TIP’ to CRIME (27463). INCIDENT #2: At about 5:05 PM on Sunday, April 12, 2015, officers from District B-2 (Roxbury) while on patrol in the area of Humboldt Avenue heard gunshots fired in the rear of the Trotter School near 135 Humboldt Avenue.

Officers followed the sound of the shots and observed an individual known to officers brandishing a firearm. The individual fled on Hollander Street, and a foot chase ensued. Officers pursued the suspect from Hollander to Harrishoff Street, where they observed the suspect discard the firearm. In short time, officers were able to find the suspect hiding under a motor vehicle parked on Harrishoff Street. Officers apprehended the male and recovered a .380 caliber firearm in a yard adjacent to Harrishoff Street.

Officers on the scene were informed that shot spotter technology detected the sounds of two separate firearms, and a total of 14 rounds were fired. Officers searched for ballistics in the Trotter schoolyard and were able to recover all 14 spent shell casings. A second, 9mm firearm was also recovered during this search. Both recovered firearms were fired to lock-back.

Officers arrested the suspect, 20-year-old Semaj Leary of Dorchester, and charged him with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Discharging a Firearm within 500 Feet of a Dwelling, Armed Career Criminal Level II, Discharging a Firearm on School Property, Possession of a Firearm with Obliterated Serial Number, Unlawful Carrying a Firearm (2nd and Subsequent), Unlawfully Carrying a Loaded Firearm, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition. In addition, Leary was arrested for prior outstanding warrants.

Although no victims were located at the time of the incident, this exchange of gunfire interrupted what was a beautiful spring day in Trotter Park where several children had been playing. Fortunately, officers were diligently patrolling the area, and their quick intuition and reactions were able to prevent any further incidents and injury.

Found it, while he was on bail he shot at a schoolyard full of kids. Good thing he was free again

Shooting suspect was out on bail – Boston Herald

A 20-year-old Roxbury man who was free on bail is now charged with opening fire in a schoolyard full of kids and parents who fled in a panic Sunday evening.

Semaj Leary’s bail on an earlier assault and battery case was revoked as he was charged yesterday in Roxbury District Court with unlawful possession of a loaded firearm with a defaced serial number, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a dwelling.

An additional $10,000 bail was added, as well as a condition that if he is released, he will face home confinement with GPS monitoring.

Prosecutors said police officers patroling the notorious gang-infested “H-block” area at Harold and Holworthy streets responded after hearing shots fired a block away, near the William Monroe Trotter Innovation School.

An officer reported seeing Leary with a handgun and making eye contact with him, before he ran and was found hiding under a car.

A jammed silver Cobra .380 was also recovered.

As residents fled the scene, two males riding BMX bikes were seen racing away. Cops reported finding another firearm in the direction in which they fled.

“The individuals who fired off multiple rounds in such close proximity put everyone at risk,” said Suffolk District Attorney Daniel F. Conley.

“But for the rapid response of Boston police and the recovery of two firearms, a child or caretaker could have been badly injured — or much worse.”

So, ban semi auto rifles for everyone in the United States, because actually putting a psychopath in jail for actual attempted murder of actual people is too cruel.

If he's in jail how are we supposed to be afraid and ask for more government to save us?

you would think one reporter trying to make a name would ask one of these jerks this question at some kind of public forum where they would be too embarrassed not to answer.

We need a legit running list of these kinds of cases. I like toss them towards my lib acquaintances to make them realize, there are other forces behind the scenes. How is this scum walking freely? What about holding criminals accountable, so innocents don't end up in caskets!? But, but, but, more gun laws....

Darn it! A Beretta 92 and a Gen4 Glock! I just had to sell all of my guns to pay bills, and he's just throwing them away! Why doesn't he come up and drop some across the NH border?

I cant believe that "Cobra" jammed. Their reputation is gonna take a hit on the forums...

Maybe he tried to hold it upright. If you dont hold a ghetto blaster sideways they can jam right up on you. Holding it sideways helps the shells fall out. Haha

And what's up with glock picture? Was he carrying an empty mag around?

all this for an American exercising his 2A rights....tyranny, tyranny, tyranny!!!!

So carrying loaded w/o ltc 3rd time is its own crime
carrying loaded without etc
I guess carrying a firearm without ltc means what? Just carrying because? Or covering bases in case it was ever unloaded at some point?

The only crime they mentioned in the report is that he was carrying a fanny pack.
