Officer shoots, kills hostage taker

this_thread_rocks.jpg
!!!!

That guy's from NH too. [smile]

Honestly, I'm pretty sure that's the only time I've been able to see someone's liver right through their skin.

Am I the only one to notice the wording in the article?

"Chief Medical Examiner Thomas A. Andrew determined Turcotte died as a result of a single gunshot wound to the head, and ruled his death a homicide, the Attorney General's Office said. The shooting and the circumstances surrounding Turcotte's death are still under investigation."

Am I wrong to think that this isn't the end of this story and that this Officer could potentially face charges?

SOP. The ME only determines cause of death and means of death. Shooting someone in this country is considered homicide. Period. Justification is dealt with separately. Hence this nations gun homicide stats actually include, however small, all justifiable shootings too.

Ah I see.. I was going by the actual definition of homicide which includes "unlawful killing"...

Legal terminology is confusing. Justified killing is still "unlawful." Self-defense is a justification - a form of defense to the charge - but the killing remains unlawful.

Technically, homicide simply refers to the act of a person killing another person. The fact that the guy died as a result of getting shot by the officer makes it a homicide whereas had he died of say, a heart attack, it would be "natural causes". Unlawful killing would be murder (unless of course homicide is defined in NH law as being "unlawful killing")

It is a good day when justice is wielded at this rate and is just. I'm not cummunist but I love the way the Soviets carry out capital punishment. they find you quilty, walk you down a hall into a room with a floor drain and put cheap round into the base of your brain from behind.
Police kill people everyday. Why is this news?

Where did the other shots end up? Glad the police got the BG and there will be no trial and waste of taxpayers' money.

KEENE – For privacy reasons, authorities will not be releasing the name of the police officer who shot and killed a Keene man reportedly holding his ex-girlfriend hostage Tuesday night until a preliminary report is ready.

"We just want to maintain the privacy of the officer and the privacy of the department," said Senior Attorney General Janice Rundles.

Privacy of the police department? WTF?

The Department has no privacy with concerns to these matter, not when the tax paying citizens are picking up the tab.
Though the officer does deserve some, we see him as a hero, some lawyer would see a wrongful death suite, and I don't want to see a man who only was doing his job to save a life be dragged through the mud by some John Edwards ambulance chaser.

Yes, and that is a major problem with the crime stats used by the socialists. That and the fact that they consider "children" all those under the age of 21.

Terra, have you seen stats on how many legally justified citizen homocides per year? I'm curious about this because I've seen stats that say there are between 1 and 4 million lawful uses of a firearm by citizens per year (2.5 million is the most recent I heard). Of those they say most do not require the gun actually being fired.

It''s noise in the stats because there really are very few justifiable homicides. That 2.5 million stat is BS, or it counts non shooting incidents so it doesn't apply.

Yes, the stats I was looking at was only use of a firearm, they didn't say what percentage actually ended in justifiable homicide, or even a shot being fired.
