"WASHINGTON (AP) -- President Barack Obama said Monday that he wants to end the stigma of mental illness and enrolled the star power of actors Bradley Cooper and Glenn Close at a White House conference organized in response to the December shootings at a Connecticut elementary school.

The event was designed to encourage those struggling with mental illness to seek treatment, although some attendees noted the government needs to provide more resources to meet that goal.

Despite its origins, there was a notable lack of discussion of gun violence at the conference. The president never mentioned the matter as he opened the gathering from the East Room, instead stressing that he wants to make it clear that the majority of the mentally ill are not violent. He said his main goal in hosting the conference is "bringing mental illness out of the shadows" and encouraging those suffering to get help, particularly veterans and young people...

...passing mention of guns, during a panel discussion, was the only mention of the issue in the daylong convention that came out of Obama's executive orders following the shooting at Connecticut's Sandy Hook Elementary School."

Meanwhile, at the CDC:

"The CDC and the CDC Foundation2 requested that the Institute of Medicine (IOM), in collaboration with the National Research Council (NRC), convene a committee of experts to develop a potential research agenda focusing on the public health aspects of firearm-related violence— its causes, approaches to interventions that could prevent it, and strate- gies to minimize its health burden. In accordance with the CDC’s charge, the committee did not focus on public health surveillance and potentially related behavioral/mental health issues, as these will be addressed separately...

...The committee identified the following key research topics as priorities for research on characteristics of firearm violence.
 Characterize the scope of and motivations for gun acquisi- tion, ownership, and use, and how are they distributed across subpopulations.
 Characterize differences in nonfatal and fatal gun use across the United States."

"2The CDC Foundation’s support originated from The Annie E. Casey Foundation, The California Endowment, The Joyce Foundation, Kaiser Permanente, one anonymous donor, and additional donor whose agreement was not finalized with the CDC Foundation at the time this document went to press." [Hmmm... who are these anonymous donors and the unnamed donor??]

The Joyce Foundation has funded a lot of gun control research, espousing: "Nearly 100,000 Americans are killed or injured in gun violence every year. This inflicts a heavy toll on families and communities. The Joyce Foundation works with law enforcement, policy makers and advocates to develop common sense gun violence reduction and prevention policies that keep our communities safe." Their grants in 2012 supported The Violence Policy Center, Bloomberg's MAIG organization, state "Ceasefire" organizations, and other partisan anti-gun organizations, as well as other granting organizations that directly or indirectly fund other gun control proponents and academic research - the "junk science" the CDC funding ban was all about to begin with..

Elsewhere: "According to a National Academies press release, organizations supporting the CDC study have close ties to Obama. When contacted by CNSNews, the Annie E. Casey Foundation issued a statement reaffirming its support for the study, which “is in keeping with our work to collaborate with public agencies, nonprofit organizations, policymakers and community leaders to make a positive impact on the lives of kids, families and communities.” Patrick Corvington, the foundation’s former senior associate, was nominated by Obama and confirmed in 2010 as CEO of the Corporation for National and Community Service.

Other supporters include The California Endowment, which has been promoting Obamacare; The Joyce Foundation, on whose Board of Directors Obama served for eight years prior to his Senate run; and Kaiser Permanente, which contributed over half a million dollars to his presidential campaign."

Obama has stacked the deck by biasing the process against finding what were called "complex solutions to a complex problem" anywhere but in more gun control. Funding for school security? Less than NY will spend enacting it's new gun bans and restrictions. Funding for gun violence research? Biased in favor of anti-gun proponents from the start.

His "Discussion on Guns" is exactly what his Executive Orders are - a one-sided discussion and unilateral action usurping the checks and balances process of the Constitution in diminishing the 2nd Amendment.

How would you define tyranny?

And of course anyone that should come forward to seek treatment will automatically become a prohibited person for life.
Sort of like holding out a cookie in one hand and the other holding a bat behind the back.
"Come get the cookie, it's ok, a little closer now" POW.
Not for one second will I ever believe that this jackass would do anything out of a love for fellow man.
This is probably one of , if not the most evil human being to hold this country's highest office in my lifetime .
Not saying it lightly either. he has set this country back so far it may be generations in climbing out of the finacial and moral hole he's dug.

+1

This is truly an evil, cold blooded man that is only interested in changing this country into a leftist utopia. Or as far in that direction as he can manage. We may never be able to undo the damage he has done. Especially if that immigration bull crap goes through

Executive orders are only for......

"United States Presidents issue executive orders to help officers and agencies of the executive branchmanage the operations within the federal government itself. Executive orders have the full force of law,[SUP][1][/SUP] since issuances are typically made in pursuance of certain Acts of Congress, some of which specifically delegate to the President some degree of discretionary power (delegated legislation), or are believed to take authority from a power granted directly to the Executive by the Constitution."

This was all window dressing for his inability to get Congress to enact any new gun confiscation laws. His agenda has nothing to do with making America more safe, controlling crime, or protecting "the children". It's about control, pure and simple. If he could have figured out a way to make it easier to make gun owners into prohibited people, he'd have done that.

What? Really? What about all of those crimes that are committed with Mosins and M1 Garands?
