Obama Kicks Shooters off of Public Lands

You know golf is a dangerous game. Maybe all courses should be closed to avoid injuries. Especially dangerous are those courses with homes and/or roads bordering the courses and those in public parks. Fences should be erected around all of the courses and netting placed over the tops so as to avoid any possible damage or injuries caused by errant shots. [smile]
Maybe the campaigner in chief will spend more time with his family?

Timing. Election is coming up and the Brady Bunch is unhappy with their boy. He needs a sop to throw at them. 1) BLM's going to have to overturn this and 2) I wouldn't be surprised if OB didn't know that all along & was doing it so he could claim he did something w/respect to gun control without actually DOING anything about it.

Squeezing out shooters, says the draft policy, is needed because, "As the West has become more populated, recreational shooters now often find themselves in conflict with other public lands users, and the BLM is frequently called on to mediate these conflicts."

Huh? So the encroaching urbanites have priority here?

Someone really needs to invent a Holodeck so all these people can just stay at home while they try to experience nature.

Mediate WHAT conflict? SSS.

Smart urbanites know where they are and are not welcome. Dumb ones learn it. Certain places they should stay out of, and places without concrete are one of them.

Honestly, not worried. Sierra Club and their lawyer and doctor BoM will not allow this aggression to stand.

Yup, Obama needs to throw the anti`s a bone.

He's right. Ask me how I know.

was just thinking about how I'd impact this if it went through.

I'd bait trails to bring in bear and cougar. After a few bikers and dogs go down, things will normalize. (Apparently, my wife thinks I'm ass for being so protectionist of wild areas against urbanites. [smile])

He's an idiot, and you can't fix stoopid:)

he is not an idiot, he is a politician.

wait for them to throw tons of money at the economy again, to make those unemployment numbers look nicer come election time, they will do it, even if it doesnt fix anything in the long run.

Don't worry, the NRA will end this...after they are done golfing, but they will still send you tons of junk mail.

"Our goal is to leave lands open to shooting," said an Interior official for the Bureau of Land Management, which is drafting guidelines to deal with the growing clash between skittish urbanites moving to western wilderness areas and America's tradition of letting gun owners shoot targets on public lands.
Urbs hate dem guns until a few of them get eaten by bear and cats. That's all I'm saying...

"It's not so much a safety issue. It's a social conflict issue," said Frank Jenks,... He adds that urbanites "freak out" when they hear shooting on public lands.

Well, then perhaps they should stay in their natural habitats...

This draft plan has been derailed totally as of today.

Shooters Heard: Interior Will Not Ban Target Practice

Under fire from gun owners concerned about draft guidelines that could limit areas for target practice on western public lands, the Interior Department today said it would make sure shooters still have access to lands long available for firearms recreation.

"Our goal is to leave lands open to shooting," said an Interior official for the Bureau of Land Management, which is drafting guidelines to deal with the growing clash between skittish urbanites moving to western wilderness areas and America's tradition of letting gun owners shoot targets on public lands. "We don't want to have to close any areas," said an official as BLM provided Washington Whispers with a statement clarifying the developing guidelines.

"We are in no way interested in banning recreational target shooting, hunting, or fishing—on the contrary, our goal is to develop guidance that will help land managers maximize and preserve opportunities for recreational shooting," said the BLM statement.

Can't say I take a lot of comfort in phrases like:
"We don't want to have to close any areas,"
"Our goal is to leave lands open to shooting,"

Watch the left hand - they may just re-word and try to accomplish the same thing...

This is what needs to happen every time they put their hands in the gun grabbing cookie jar - they draw back a stump.

From the originally linked-to story:

Officials say the administration is concerned about the potential clash between gun owners and encroaching urban populations who like to use same land for hiking and dog walking.

"It's not so much a safety issue. It's a social conflict issue," said Frank Jenks, a natural resource specialist with Interior's Bureau of Land Management, which oversees 245 million acres. He adds that urbanites "freak out" when they hear shooting on public lands.

So...there's a "potential clash"? Doesn't that mean that there isn't an existing problem, just that someone suspects that there's potential for a problem? Quick, quick, make a law because there's not yet a problem!

And they admit it's not a safety issue, but a "social conflict" issue. Nice how their supposed dedication to diversity & tolerance goes out the window on this one. "I think my neighbor is icky!" Oh, okay, well let's make them stop doing whatever you don't like even though there's no safety risk to what they're doing. WHAT?!

And the freak out issue...I've seen people freak out when they find a tick on them (oh, alright, that was me [rolleyes] God I hate those things), or when they see a snake (not me!), or when they are afraid of heights. Holy cow, let's ban insects, snakes, and tall buildings!!
