NY SAFE Act numbers released

... with fewer than 45,000 weapons being registered.

While there is no firm count, observers have estimated there could be hundreds of thousands or even a million assault-style weapons in New York.

In Connecticut, which later passed a similar registration law, 50,016 weapons have been registered.

But with a population five times that of the Nutmeg State, fewer weapons have been registered in New York, suggesting widespread non-compliance.

I truly never thought I'd say this, but WELL DONE, NEW YORK!

I guess it is their leadership and not so much the citizens.

The part that really has to smart for that jackhole is that stupid safe act shot him in the foot for a run at the white house.

Considering that most of the "assault weapons" are likely owned by individuals in the non NYC parts of the state that are fairly conservative and don't really want to be lumped in with NYC, I'm not surprised. Where measures like these get the most support is in the city, and I'm shocked that there were over a thousand there.

I'd be curious what is the estimated number of "assault weapons" owned in NY? If it's 75k they did fantastic, if it's 3 million then they get pwned.

The estimate is that there are 1M in NYS, roughly, but no one really knows. So approx 5% compliance rate.
