The Chautauqua County Sheriff's office say a homeowner managed to stop an attempted home invasion around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Police say two men went to a home on Mayville-Sherman Road in the town of Chautauqua. While one waited in the car, the other knocked on the door. The suspect asked the homeowner if there was any land to rent in the area, then forced his way into the home, displaying a handgun and forcing the homeowner and a woman to lie down on the floor.....

report says victim armed himself with a small caliber handgun, yet the suspect description states "He may have small caliber bird shot wounds to his face or upper body".
Love these reporters lol

Unless he was shooting birdshot out of a small caliber revolver, which is just stooopid for home defense....That's a Darwin Award waiting to happen right there...Happy story with a good ending for the homeowners, but I hope they learned a lesson: Birdshot is for birds....
