[h=1]Defiant NRA leader rejects gun controls, asks to put police in schools[/h]By Michael O'Brien, NBC News
National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre defiantly blamed violent video games and movies, the media, gun-free zones in schools and other factors during the organization's first public statement following the elementary school shooting in Newtown, Conn. last week.

comment section, I wanna puke. I guess the thing Ill never understand is this, how the hell do people truly believe taking guns from law abiding citizens will make criminals not have access to them. I just don't freaked get it.

I agree, and couldn't believe that they allowed him to almost obscure Wayne with his sign held up so high! They should have had guys with ARs strapped to their chests like a swat team escorting these scumbags out![laugh] Just kidding, because I know that wouldn't be downplaying the violence angle, but it would have been funny nonetheless.[wink]

No they should have done it the libtard way, wearing unicorn horns, and swishing at him with purple scarves until he retreated.

Blaming video games and making the point that only those with .mil, police, or special training are good enough to protect the schools? What does any of that have to do with the 2A, again?

He made some good points, but lost me on the blame of a toy and pushing more police state bullshit.

You're right, I was lost on those two points as well. Don't think that those things won't be snapped up by the media, while they ignore all of his good points too. They will say something like "Even the NRA stated in their press conference that it should only be police protecting our children and others with guns", or some other nonsense spin.

you're way too into this! [banana]

made lots of good points, a few REALLY SHITTY ones, and the military protecting schools is definitely out in my book.

Why, we have so many Military trained personnel, why not tap that source? The country has a great deal of respect for servicemen and women, why not use those emotions to help sell your point and stick it to the pres.

The video game angle was rough. But its no good to condemn parents who don't actually raise their children.

I wish he pressed harder on the gun free zones and wish that he mentioned how many violent crimes are thwarted by the armed citizen. Also how the armed citizen is the first responder.

Sent from my mobile device.

Well, his point is bogus. Someone predisposed to killing will be that way with or without violent media. I play lots of games and watch plenty of violent movies, and I have never felt that killing is "normal".
That is so weird I neither play violent video games nor do I watch violent movies but I keep adding people to the list

One of my classmates from high school, a FUDD, was pissed at the speech because there was no mention of compromise on an AWB. I had to block his post from raising my BP.

The media bashing was fun but more time should've been used on DEFENDING rights than suggesting a "solution" to a singular concern.

The NEA will come out quickly against anything the NRA proposes. They will find some obscure clause in their boilerplate union contract saying they don't have to work in a school with an armed guard.

Parents want a solution, they do not care about broad gun rights. By providing a solution to this current "problem" it makes people happy and we go back to doing what we are doing.

In this case we need all hands on deck, and not be splintered. You know right well the other side is after one goal, and we have to fight it as a group.

There was the attack on the 1st, and a power grab attempt with the proposed shield program HOWEVER, I think the NRA's response was good.

I would've liked it if they were more aggressive about 2A Rights but aside from that, I think they did a good job.

The best part is being pro-active about a solution, which is something NO ONE ELSE HAS DONE YET!

You know we're talking about liberals here, right? Nothing will make them happy except house to house search and seizure.

The 1st Amendment attacks we're a bit wonky (the point could have been made a little better about parental/societal influence on kids) but it was a decent presentation.
