The Washington Post reports:

After years of denying allegations of lax financial oversight, the National Rifle Association has made a stunning declaration in a new tax filing: Current and former executives used the nonprofit group’s money for personal benefit and enrichment.

The NRA said in the filing that it continues to review the alleged abuse of funds, as the tax-exempt organization curtails services and runs up multimillion-dollar legal bills. The assertion of impropriety comes four months after the attorney general of New York state filed a lawsuit accusing NRA chief executive Wayne LaPierre and other top officials of using NRA funds for decades to provide inflated salaries and expense accounts.

The tax return, which The Washington Post obtained from the organization, says the NRA “became aware during 2019 of a significant diversion of its assets.” The 2019 filing states that LaPierre and five former officials received “excess benefits,” a term the IRS uses when officials have enriched themselves at the expense of a nonprofit entity.

I've been trying to decide if I should renew my membership or not. Last magazine will be the January 2021 issue. So not much time left. With all the BS over the past couple of years, I'm leaning towards "nope". I'll donate, or join, another org that has a cleaner record at this point. There are at least a few good ones out there.

I did life membership a while back , now I tey to donate more to goal and comm2a
If only I could get my amazon account locked on to comm2a so it picks up all my wifes spending.

I've linked my Amazon Smile to Firearms Policy Foundation... At least for now. With how much I tend to spend on Amazon, they should get a decent donation out of it (over a span of a year at least). In the past week, or since setting that up, I've bought over a grand worth of things.

I'm just hoping that at least SOME of the orgs out there can prevent Creepy Uncle Joe and the libtard socialists from pushing through more control items. Or prevent the hATe-F from reinterpreting crap that was already decided upon in years past. Turning currently law abiding citizens into [potentially at least] felons overnight.

now let the fun begin, the IRS will go back as far as the statute of limitations allows, after the 3 year window to amend a return, and bend everyone who got enriched on your dollars for undeclared income

You can bet your arse all of them that got the suits, etc ect etc are running to amend their 2017, 18 , and 19 tax returns and pay the tax on the ill gotten gains

I did the life membership also years ago. I never got a membership card or anything but I still get the magazine every month. Did you get a card?

The NRA's purpose and effectiveness is bigger than LaPierre. Democrats are attacking now to cancel the NRA's political influence. Supporting these attacks right now is not in the best interests of gun owners.

If you don’t want to support the NRA administration, then designate your contributions exclusively to the NRA Institute for Legislative Action and the Political Victory Fund.

Well the first step is admitting there is a problem. This could be the road to NRA recovery.

I say support them and let's hope in a couple years they come out of this better, we need them.

Part of LaPierre's value was that he was known by, and liked by, POTUS. If POTUS will take your phone calls personally or meet with you from time to time, that's worth several hundred $K in additional salary if you choose your job properly. Now that Wayne no longer brings that to the table, it is a good time to throw him under the buss and try to move the anchor of corruption from the org and "go along to get along" board to these ne'er-do-wells.

My local gun club (MVGC) requires membership to the NRA.

I'd rather see Comm2a or GOAL as a membership requirement rather than the NRA.

The NRA hasn't done shit for the residents of MA....

How soon you forget the handgun confiscation initiative on the statewide ballot in Massachusetts in 1976.

It was proposed that authorities confiscate all handguns in the state, including BB guns. Gun owners would have six months to surrender their firearms, after which they would face a mandatory year in prison for owning a handgun.

The confiscation law seemed poised to pass. The most liberal state in the nation, Massachusetts--along with the District of Columbia--was the only place that had given its electoral votes to Democratic presidential candidate George McGovern in 1972. (McGovern had run on a platform calling for a national ban on all handguns considered "unsuitable for sporting purposes.")

Most of the Massachusetts media strongly supported a handgun ban. The Boston Globe, whose reach extends throughout the relatively small state, vehemently opposed handgun ownership. So did the television stations in Boston.

Early polling suggested that a handgun ban would pass handily. Further, in the 1974 election, voters in several state legislative districts had overwhelmingly supported measures instructing their state legislators to vote for strict anti-gun legislation.

I am actually thinking of joining, especially if things go south in the senate races....while they could stand to make changes they are still the only group large enough to carry any weight, sure you can donate to smaller groups but the reality is no one knows them and their size makes them ineffective at representation

Ooo, ooo, now do the Clinton foundation.

Media won't cover it, much like Biden's cancer charity that spent all the money on salaries....its like the bear in the woods scenario

Organizations don’t get my money based on something they did in 1976. I’m glad to see the NRA stepped up and did the same thing, but that was almost 50 years ago.

It is not the same organization now that it was then.

I have been a second level (benefactor or patron) NRA life member for a long time.

every time I receive a mailing asking for donations with the prepaid postage envelope I make sure to mail them back a letter stating that donations will resume when Wayne Lapierre and Marion Hammer are gone!

with all that being said NRA stands for national rifle Association not state rifle Association. Do you really think spending any money in mass would be a good use of funds? Elizabeth Warren, Markie, and all the other liberal senators that have served this state do not care what the NRA have to say! NRA works on a national level and organizations like goal work on the state level.

do not get me wrong I am not defending the NRA at all. The miss use of funds is a serious problem. But the fact that they do not do anything to help Mass is the wrong argument in my humble opinion.

So you are saying that our best option is to starve it to death? That will serve our long term interests?

If so then you can't even fathom what it is to play in the Bigs.

Can we stop pretending the NRA is the only organization in existence that’s in place to defend the 2A.

I realize we want to celebrate the great victories of the 1960’s but it’s 2020. I don’t pay for pst performance I pay for future expectations.
