I'd be surprised if it's not an interference fit, likely cooling the core and heating the shell so they don't have to press as hard.


Yah sounds about right. I'm guessing the reason they didn't just machine it about of one piece was due to the "meticulous rifling and stress relieved". If that lattice is machined all that work could warp the barrel or introduce stress fractures.

definitely. I had to reread it, I'd assumed it was an aluminum lattice to move the heat away faster (because three metals expanding differentially is a recipe for exceptional precision...)
