Are they asking you to ship your "item" and asking to pay with a money order?

Most of them broken English and incomplete sentences. Money is money is my eyes, I was just curious if others were experiencing the same.

I am going to send you more funds than they item is for sale for, and when you give me the back they extra money, I am going to use it to free a princess that is currently held captive in a castle in Nigeria.

Alot of them are just lurkers who have been here for a while. For the most part they seem like good people. Still need to watch out an perform your due dilligence before agreeing to anything.

I have sold a few things to 0 posters. All have followed the laws and my rules to the sale.
One buyer said he could not view pics with out signing up and uses forum want adds only.
If it doesn't feel right don't follow through with the sale. So far I have not had that situation where the sale feels sketchy.

famous reply on Craigslist lol

And yet people still fall for it....[sad2]

I had a guy from NY try to sell me pre-ban magazines. He had a really low post count, his English wasn't good (which, in of it's self isn't something that would prevent me from doing business with them..) and his demands were just...odd.

I just chose not to buy from him. Simple as that. I thanked him for his time and said I was going to look elsewhere.

If you don't have a warm fuzzy, make the transfer @ an FFL. If the legitimacy of a transfer is good enough for .gov, it should be good enough for you.

I actually threw up in my mouth a little typing that. [hmmm]

Have you seen some of the posts on this board? Sometimes I think you would be better off dealing with someone smart enough not to roll around in the mud with the likes of this crew.

If you have a question about whether or not a user is legit, ask a mod and we'll try to help. We have had a few scammers here and there. Usually they're pretty easy to spot because they post from IP addresses in foreign countries and they usually use some sort of form letter that doesn't change much. You can report a private message the same way you'd report any other post.

With that said, buyer and seller beware. If someone sounds fishy they probably are.

I've sold a few things recently to people with 0 posts and they've been very nice. I do my FTF's at the local gun club so I'm not worried about any issues.

Mac, you've had way more posts and more feedback submissions than I, but I have to agree--my experience has been the same over the years, happily.

I'll admit to being a bit more hesitant to deal with the last couple (I have "zero-post-prejudice!") than with any of you "repeat offenders" [smile] but everything worked out smoothly. Again...time for me to thank Derek and the moderators and NES community at large.

I've never had anyone really sketchy respond.

I did have one a55h0le. But he was easily dealt with .

Over the years, I've come up with a few rules that I lead with. I'll relax them if I get warm fuzzies.

1) All negotiation is done prior to meeting. What this means is that
a. No test drives
b. The price is the price we agree to on the phone. Not a dime less
c. If you offer me one dime less than our agreed price, I will simply leave.
d. If you don't believe the gun is as represented, no hard feelings. You certainly don't have to buy it. But don't offer me a dime less.

2) Cash. Period.
3) I want to see a copy of your LTC before the sale.
4) I don't care if you are black, white, asian, or whatever.
5) I'm waiting 5 minutes past our agreed upon time. If you are late and don't call. I'm leaving.

I spell this out to all buyers, in writing. It usually scares away the idiots. And for decent folks, its not a problem.

Don

By the way. This works VERY VERY well when selling your 2 year old Android/iPhone. Especially the part about agreeing to the price before meeting. These devices are purchased by some of the sleaziest people around. These rules scare the bad ones away. I also insist on meeting at a Starbucks. Nice and public.

I had one guy wanting me to ship down to fall river or somewhere near there. Didn't seem right. Lack of receiving FFL info seemed really sketch. I backed out because something seemed off.

If it doesn't feel right, walk away.

On the other hand, I just sold to a "lurker". Nice guy. Totally professional and on the up-and-up.

Usually the quality of the PM's tells you a lot.

I ended up making a deal for tomorrow with one of them. Seems like a nice guy, and he's a member at the same club as me. I'm not worried about the transaction one bit. I've just never had this many PM me after "SPF" is everywhere on my listing.
Good to know mods can make sure the buyer isn't from India too...

Wait, you are from India...[wink]

Right no I am more concerned that the last 2 people I tried to buy from never answered my PM's. I've sent 4 PM's in 4 days on a rifle that was bumped on 6/2 and no answer.

I guess I better get my 'post' count up then...don't want anyone thinking I'm a sketchy lurker. I really do enjoy reading all the posts though - I'm learning a lot. I'm waiting on my LTC application approval (first time), and I recently sent in my check to NES so I'll be green here soon enough.

lol, i've bought a few things off sketchy lurkers, the folks who speed post just to get their post count up enough to use the classified. turned out to not be so sketchy after all...

on the other hand, i've had people who had registered on the forum recently with a 0 to 5 post count answering my ad. that bothers me more for some reason. maybe the fact that most of them have no people skills and troll to get a bargain. [hmmm]

Should I be concerned about a guy from Canada wanting to buy 1000 Taurus pistols from me????
