No more Glocks

I like my 2-6, then again I really like my 1911sc as well. Very different firearms, both have plusses and minuses to me.

I like my Glocks, and being in CT, we can get them really cheap.

That being said, if I ever need my carry gun, it is going to get confiscated by the PD for the "investigation" and you know they are not going to treat your custom Derr 1911 with any kind of respect. And what chance do you think you'll ever get it back? Really nice custom guns get "lost" in evidence lockers.

I'm good with a "throw away" Glock.

Anyone else bailing out of the Glock band wagon?

nope... I will never quit on the best combat handgun available today. [smile] I will certainly add more guns to my collection of different brands but I will never sell a Glock at the cost of it.

I LOVE to shoot 1911s, they look great, can have awesome triggers, and single stack always feels nice in the hand.

But, I mostly carry glocks. Lightweight, hi-cap, extremely reliable (even with very little maintenance), and simple to use.

I don't hate 'em, just tired of paying twice what they're worth here in Massachusetts. Sold two Glocks to get this. Can't beat the quailty and accuracy of this awesome 1911. Thanks Derr Precision !!

In the late 80s the New Haven PD switched to glocks.

A friend was a cop and he showed it to me. God its ugly, I thought. I compared it with my newly purchased, nicely crafted S&W 6906 with its pretty stainless, nicely machined safeties and slide release.

There was no comparison.

Then I started carrying the 6906 in an IWB holster. Damn if the safety didn't bite into me. And that traditional Double action worked ok.

Then one day we went shooting and I got to shoot a personally owned glock of his. I brought my 1911 Gold Cup, my 6906 and a couple of other guns.

I shot the glock and the trigger was soft and mushy. I hated it at first.

Then my buddy got up and rattled off double taps with very little time between shots. They were good hits also.

He laughed and explained to me that the reset was as short as my 1911s, but the actual pull was long enough to not require a safety.

Hmm. Maybe there was something to this.

I eventually got a Glock 26 and sold it. Too fat for the way I carry. But I did shoot IDPA with that little 26. In fact I shot at the winter nationals with it and made Expert with it the week before. (In stock service pistol, not some backup gun class) It served me well and I bought a 34, again for IDPA use.

Well, 10 years since I've bought the 34 and I still love it. I still think its ugly. Because it is ugly. I don't have the same pride of ownership that I do with one of my Smith revolvers or a Les Baer 1911, but I still really enjoy shooting it. (I can't even bring myself to put the Les Baer in a holster, but I'll get over that soon enough)

The glock is different, its a tool. Its a tool that goes bang, ALWAYS. I've never had this gun fail to go bang, extract and feed every time I've pulled the trigger. (when using factory ammo) Although I have had it fail to feed when one of my students in my pistol class limp wristed it. (this is why the revolver is still king of the home defense handgun)

So, No. I'm not getting rid of my Glock. Its the most reliable semi-auto I own. Its a big gun that shoots an intermediate round. So its comfortable for novices to shoot.

Don

p.s. with that said, Glock is falling a bit behind the curve on some of the "nice to haves". Ambi controls are the first thing to come to mind.

p.p.s. to look at a glock closely, you can't help but marvel at the engineering. Not fancy gun porn like a finely crafted 1911. I'm talking about manufacturing excellence.
The parts are designed in such a way that metal stampings can be used for most of the lower parts. The slide is machined from bar stock and still looks like . . well bar stock.
And the parts. Well, there aren't many. And fieldsstripping it. No flying springs like a 1911. drop the striker, pull the slide back 1/4 inch engage the releases and the slide comes off. The slide breaks down into only 3 parts. A captured guide rod and spring, barrel, slide. Thats it.

This may not seem impressive now. Now that everybody has copied the design. (look inside an XD or M&P and compare. ) But in 1987 it was revolutionary.

I do believe that the G17 will go down as one of the great firearm designs of the 20th century. Perhaps right after the 1911 as far as pistols go.

i almost bought a Glock but i choose a Ruger SR9 over the Glock, reason was price and feel .

I dont care how they shoot i dont tend on missing my target. i am picking up a brand-spanin new SR9 in 2 weeks waiting for 261.00 more so i can pay it off i bough tit for 429.00 total was 461.00

the Glock didnt come with 2 mags the SR9 did why pay over 600.00 for a Glock when i can get a gun almost as same for less and with 2 mags.

you should have bought a glock 17 same size gun and the glocks mag hold almost what 2 of the sr9 Mass mags hold

Not trashing Glocks . . . it's just that if it was made by man/woman, it can and will break! There is no such thing as "perfection". Any gun can fail at any time.
That's what I keep hearing. 20,000+ rounds through my 23 with no breakage and no FTF. I think I'll keep it.

I wanted a 10mm handgun. I know of no other reliable, rugged, lightweight gun in 10mm, and certainly no other gun in that caliber that holds 15 rounds. I handled a number of other guns that day (an XD, an M&P, a couple Sigs, and an M9) and nothing but the Glock and the M9 felt right in my hand. I like other guns, and I want to own a few, but I like Glocks for the same reason I like AK platform guns: simple to operate, don't need much fondling, and when you need them to, they just keep working.

yeah...I too was curious and wondered how come so many glocks in the classified section...been away for several weeks on vaca and not checked in...did something happened to cause the influx?

Price increases plus bad economy, maybe?

I have had two G23s and I love them. I also love the 1911s, but for the price of a Glock you can't beat it. Plus they hold up, and the repairs are simple and the customer service is great. I have also been a huge fan of the looks of them since I was young and I first saw one that belonged to a cop. Sure there may be better pistols out there, but my Glock is not giving up its place in the safe anytime soon.

Glock Perfection?? ....Maybe

Glocks in Massachusetts? .... No Love (Unless LE)

Glock's GSSF in New England........No Love

In point of Fact, I bitch out Glock every year at SHOT SHOW...Guess What? They look at my Name Tag, Notice my location (Massachusetts) and don't give a Rat's A** about ME or MY Opinion, or MY Home State.

There are a couple of good threads on NES posted by people that have contact with some of glock reps. They actually do care. It's our AG that's the problem.

I had a Glock for about three months, but I couldn't warm up to the trigger. There's no way to make it an enjoyable gun to shoot.

I come from a Bullseye/precision side of shooting, so I enjoy shooting smooth revolvers and nice 1911's.

Even for self defense, I feel safer and more comfortable with a smooth double action revolver. And I shoot revolvers better too. Maybe I'm just old school.

I don't own any glocks, but I can forsee a glock 33 in my future... I do have a few "glock cousins" in my safe though... Springfield xDs, and theyre SWEET!

And frankly, they have EVERY RIGHT to not care about MA, given the way the AG has dealt with them, etc. If I were a gun manufacturer in the free world I'd probably be giving MA a double fisted middle finger salute, too. [laugh]

I for one am grateful that they still at least bother to put thier guns on the EOPS roster, despite the fact that civvy sales here are just about unlikely. At least that keeps the guns floating around on the secondary market a bit better.

A lot better than some manufacturers, like Springfiled, who won't even bother to do even that - although, with the legal climate here, I can't
say that I blame them.

You're basically whining at glock, though, for failing to "fix" a problem which is NOT, and was never, their making.

I've owned a Glock, I currently don't. I am not anti-Glock, and I leave open the possibility that I could own another in the future, just not right now.
IMNSHO this "Glock/No Glock" debate is the same as the ".380/9 mm/.40/.45" debate. It is a matter of personal preference, I'm going to carry what I feel comfortable with, and I would encourage everyone else to do the same (Just don't carry a .22[pot]).

That's how I feel. I had one for a while, put thousands of rounds through it, and then traded it for a Smith M&P. I never fell in love with it, but I didn't hate it either.

i love my G27 for CC, and i carry my G32 at work weekly. they are excellent guns. easy to use, easy to maintain.
