MassWildlife is proposing an exceptionally large fee increase on hunting and fishing licenses over the next 5 years. Unfortunately, this increase does not come with any benefit to gun owners or the outdoor heritage community-who pays the lion's share of the costs necessary to buy and maintain public conservation lands. The community is still being persecuted and restricted by the state government with no end in sight.
Letter:
[We the undersigned completely oppose any increase in fees charged by the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife (MassWildlife). Since the middle of the last century, gun owners and the members of the outdoor heritage community have all but entirely funded MassWildlife and its programs. We have always considered it a badge of honor to do so; but things have changed.
Ever since the 1990s, gun owners and the outdoor heritage community have been treated with outright disdain by our state government. Year after year, the Legislature, with the support of the Governor, has continuously passed laws and regulations that persecute responsible gun owners. At the same time, the Legislature and the Governor have refused to repeal or even amend antiquated laws that place unwarranted restrictions on the outdoor heritage community.
The most recent proposal from MassWildlife represents a near doubling of license fees and stamps costs over the next five years. We find this action deplorable, especially given how we are treated in the Commonwealth. As a result, we oppose any increase in fees, until such time as we are treated with the respect and dignity we deserve.]
