The sport of Formula One has united to pay tribute to the courage and bravery of its three-times world champion, Niki Lauda, who has died at the age of 70.

The Austrian died in Vienna on Monday, his family announced, nine months after receiving a lung transplant. Lauda, who won titles in 1975, 1977 and 1984, was hugely admired, respected and liked within F1 after a remarkable career during which he won two titles for Ferrari and one for McLaren and came back from an horrific accident in 1976.

    He will be missed.
I liked this guy. Real inspiration.
Being burned like he was in that bad crash
then coming back to win a world championship?
More than most men could do. After racing he
started his own airline Lauda Air. It was successful
then he eventually sold out to a larger airline.

    R.I.P. Niki.

He was lucky to be alive.

Back in the eighties I went to Germany to visit one of my fathers Aunts in Bad, Mergentheim.
    We only received Christmas cards.
I was traveling by myself at 21 and his aunt was giving me directions, I spoke no German, they spoke pretty good English

Go to Lauda and one more stop and get off.
    I'm, Like, what.
    her, lauda
    I'm, what?
    her, lauda
I'm, what? not getting her accent to well.

    LAUDA like the driver.
    I'm like who.
Needles to say I got schooling when I arrived.

Had a good time, her son was dating the Bergermisters daughter . Oktoberfest started early that year.
I also didn't know you can have a beer man like milk man, delivers cases of beer weekly and takes the empties back.

    RIP Mr Lauda

The documentary film about the crash that disfigured him was actually really good. Despite the burns and everything he kept racing. That guy had some guts.

“Non-Executive chairman” was the title, I believe. “Toto Wulff whisperer” would have been more accurate :)

He was the team manager for Jaguar Racing (which was sold toRed Bull and renamed). Jaguar Racing was founded by Jackie Stewart and sold toFord after a few years, who badged it Jaguar

Lauda started a couple of airlines; Lauda Air was the first, then Niki and finally LaudaMotion.

I do not know where he found the energy ...

I’ll miss him; his trackside interviews were always fun and full of insight.
