Night Sights on an AK

I have tritium front sight posts and mojo ghost rings on my AK's. The tritium glow is awesome in low light conditions and worth it in my opinion.

I have painted the front sight posts on most of my AKs and some of my Mosins with bright yellow paint. Won't help at night, but it makes it much more visible at the range.

If you are using your AK as a defensive carbine, a mounted light should be part of your setup. If you have a foreend rail system then this is easy. If not the BM-1 barrel mount by RS products is an excellent product (minimalist design, does not take up much space). I find that at the 9-10 o'clock position, the light will effectively illuminate the front sight, letting your identify your target and line up your sights. The best solution after getting good at shooting with irons is to mount a red-dot, then you don't have to worry about seeing your iron sights, but you should still have a light to ID the target.

There was a great write up on MilCopp Tactical but the site appears to be down right now: http://www.milcopptactical.com/akfighting.htm
Hopefully it will come back up soon, in the mean time this is the google cache of it:

I went with the damage industries modular forend. I was able to buy a blemished one ( though I can't find the blemish) for half the price. It seems to be a pretty stable optic platform but I've only got about 400 rounds through it.
