These guys have been quiet for a while but just an update email from the New Hampshire Frearms Coalition.

Try and support this group if you can. NH is the stronghold for 2A in the Northeast, lets keep it that way:

For several months the State House was very quiet and we at New Hampshire Firearms Coalition, Inc., had very little to email you about. Things are about to change...

In March, when SAR-COV-2 [the virus that causes Covid-19] hit New Hampshire, the full legislature basically went into lock-down (recess). Except for isolated committee meetings, the Senate and House of Representatives have not met since March 12th & 13th respectively.

This past week the House met for the first time and tomorrow 6/16 the Senate will meet. During that time, a lot of ‘work’ has been done in closed door sessions. The ‘work’ that took place behind the scenes, very little of which is beneficial to the gun owners, is just coming to the surface. As the House and Senate Calendars came out Thursday last week, we are seeing for the first time what has been going on.

The House met this past Thursday and the minority party basically stopped all legislation using House rules. This was good for us. The Senate, on the other hand, is ready to vote on 26 ‘DC style Christmas tree bills’. […a Christmas tree bill is a political term referring to a bill that attracts many, often unrelated, floor amendments. A Christmas tree bill consists of many riders. The amendments which adorn the bill may provide special benefits to various groups or interests… ]

These bills will be taken up by the Senate tomorrow, and then will go to the House for a vote on the 30th and likely to the Governor after that. Given the current makeup of the Senate, we suspect that all of these anti-gun and anti-liberty bills will pass. Our efforts will be to stop them when these bills leave the Senate and go to the House and Governor.

Senate Calendar No. 23 shows they intend to amend 26 bills with over 340 pages of non-related amendments. Welcome to DC style politics… On Tuesday, June 16th, the Senate will take up, and vote on all of these non-germane amendments to various bills and we expect these to pass basically along party lines.

They are trying to railroad legislation through like we've never seen before. DC style politics have truly taken over the New Hampshire State House. As we read through this calendar, we saw numerous issues that will need to be addressed. In almost all cases, the bill needs to be killed.

Before I go through the specifics of the legislation, I need to cover one very time sensitive item.

The filing period for office is over, but the two major parties have a short three (3) day period to add additional candidates. (This additional filing period ends on Wednesday this week.) In districts where there are vacancies on the ballot, the party can nominate someone to fill those missing slots. There are numerous open slots for both parties.

The Republican party is still looking for candidates in:

Rochester
Greenland & Newington
Barrington
Coos County District 1: (Clarksville, Cambridge, Colebrook, Columbia, Dixville, Errol, Millsfield, Pittsburg, Stewartstown, Stratford, Wentworth's Loc.)
Carrol County District 7: (Bartlett, Hart's Location, Jackson, Chatham, Conway, Eaton, Hale's Location, Albany, Freedom, Madison, Tamworth)
The Democrat party did not fill out the slates in

Bedford
Litchfield
and several other districts in both Hillsborough and Rockingham counties.
If you live in one of these towns and you are willing to run as a Republican (meaning you are already registered as a Republican and are willing to serve in office) please contact the NHGOP and if you are registered as a Democrat and you want to run in one of those towns as a Democrat please contact the Democrat party. If you need contact information for either party, please contact me

It is crucial that these slots be filed by people who care about our 2nd Amendment rights.

In the Virginia election of 2019, 26 slots out of 100 did not have candidates. This resulted in a very narrow margin for the anti gunners...who elected the most vehemently anti gun speaker imaginable. We cannot let that happen in New Hampshire. It is up to you to protect our gun rights. We are not an organization that helps people get into office, but we can inform you about what is going on and let you decide if you want to get involved. We only grade those that choose to run. It is up to gun owners to help find, recruit, and back those who are willing to protect our rights.

Virginia Speaker of the House, Eileen Filler-Corn became Speaker because 26 slots were left uncontested. We need to make sure that does not happen in NH.

Please make sure you find candidates that are willing to protect the rights of gun owners.

As for these bills, there are at least two that need to be stopped regarding firearms, or in one case paintball guns. One of the Education bills, HB1558 has been amended to create suspension problems for children that merely possess a 'paintball gun'. [Note, this is not about bringing a marker to school, just merely owing one.] The mere possession of a paintball marker could be used to extend a suspension of a student. We will issue more details after the Senate votes tomorrow.

Give me a year, unfortunately after this election, and I'll likely be in the Coos or Carroll district.

Hopefully the Governor vetoes everything that passed. What does it mean if Democrats didn't fill out slates in a town? Does that mean they aren't even attempting to run?

Not sure, those seats may go just uncontested. They likely just simply didn't have any candidates willing to run.
