Spencer, MA -- In a suprising development, a popular local web chat site has been taken over by a rebellious, iconoclastic forum called Off Topic.

It happened overnight. No one saw it coming. It was a tidal wave of electrons. Experts say it may take six to eight weeks to pump out all of the effluvia, but cautioned the acrid smells may linger for months.

The NES site administrator, a decorated former Marine known only by his first name, Derek, could not be reached for comment.

Derek...sooner or later he'll start to calm down....em, maybe.

No chance! I think he (C-X) somehow escaped from Bridgewater (and I don't mean Bridgewater State College)! The guys with the butterfly nets weren't fast enough to catch him (C-X). Rumor has it that he (C-X) travels in a pack of attorneys, so that nobody notices anything strange about his (C-X) behavior in the pack!

:)

Edited in RED to make it crystal clear WHO I was referring to!

Was that a snipe at lawyers, or at Marines? Either way, you just might be in big trouble! :D

How do you pronounce Ka-Bar anyway? Is is it KAY-bar or KAH-bar?

See above, I edited my post to clarify WHO I meant . . . for those who are comprehension-challenged!

I say KAY bar. And if I'm wrong, I don't care. Because KAH bar sounds stoopid.

I tend to agree with you, but I would like our decorated resident expert to weigh in on this one.

While we are waiting for him to do so, here is my next question: how should one pronounce Garand?

For bonus points, properly pronounce Lapua.

The NHL is having a shootout after every pre-season game to get fans used to the new overtime format. They lost the game in regulation but won the shootout.

OK- Garand sounds kinda like "Darren"

But Lapua? I've never been to Finland so I can only guess on "lap wah"

Am I close?

SR, you are very, very close. I understand it is pronounced "LOP-wah".

My notion of the proper way is GUH-rand

That's what I was trying to say. You just spelled it better.

But I'm sure that thats that fancy ed-u-ma-cation. Me, I just went to some rinky-dink college in Mississippi called Ole Miss.

That is a football powerhouse that also has some classes, right?

Great school.

Yea, it was a great school. It pissed off my dad because we have a long line of SAEs and I didn't even pledge.

And two of the Mannings came from there. It's a good football school, but it's no Ohio State, or Michigan, or FSU, or Florida State, or Miami, Georgia...you got it.

My notion of the proper way is GUH-rand

That seems to be the concensus among the M1 fans, but I recall seeing an interview with John Garand's son a while back, and he said that his father always pronounced his name ga-Rand.

And what does _he_ know? :P
