Ive always thought of it as really limiting where you buy geographically. It is like getting a delay... say you bought at a gun show or are traveling on the other side of the state but get delayed, or now have to wait these 3 additional days. you may not still be in that area in 3 days, or the shop at a gun show near you may be located on the complete other end of the state. it is a logistical pain in the ass, and they're doing it on purpose. by a thousand cuts...


think of all the additional greenhouse gases that will be created from having to go back and fourth to shops by the fossil fuel driving gun crowd all these additional times,...the horror/ sarc.

• The maximum waiting period for background checks to take place before a gun sale can proceed will be extended from three days to seven days. If a licensed dealer facilitating the gun's transfer has not received a unique identification number from the National Instant Criminal Background Check System within seven days, the sale can proceed.

If you're good on the NICS check, take the gun home

The goal is to have a system like Mexico: one store in the entire country where citizens can legally purchase a (singular) gun. It's in Mexico City, and it's run by the Army.

That’s a different part of the rule.
Now, when you pass a NICS check, the clock starts and you cannot take the gun home for 72 hours.
I believe there is an exception for gun shows.

Gov. Phil Scott says he has strong concerns that the waiting period is unconstitutional, but he allowed the bill to become law without his signature because he says the issue will likely be settled in federal court.

What does, “allowed the bill to become law without his signature” mean?

Is that the same as, “he vetoed the bill and the legislature overrode him”?

Basically. I believe he has 10 days to sign it, if he doesn't sign it then it automatically becomes law. It's kind of his protest against the bill but he knows if he vetoes it it'll be overridden anyway
