Hello All,

I am looking for some direction on how to start competing in matches. I have been attending USPSA practice at harvard, and I would like to try some USPSA and/or IDPA matches.

What is not clear to me is I don't know the class I would be in, not sure how to answer those questions. Can newbs participate? Do I just sign up on practiscore and show up?

Anything else I should know?

Thanks

What did the folks at Harvard say when you asked them?

Class in USPSA is determined by your classification, or basically your skill. Unclassified (or U) is the selection for new shooters.
Division is determined by your firearm and other equipment. This is best explained in person by one of those folks at Harvard while checking over your equipment.

Being unclassified is no problem as long as you're safe. Let your range officers/safety officers know it's your first match and they'll usually have you shoot at the end of the squad so you have a chance to see everyone else. You'll make mistakes and that's ok, but always ask someone if you have ANY doubt about the safety/gun handling stuff.
