New style gun license

I renewed my gun license 4 weeks ago, and picked it up today
it's the new credit card style, but there is no mag strip on the back
is there supposed to be one? also, they gave me a pin # and said that I "may" need it when purchasing a gun
towards the top it reads, license to carry firearms (m.g.l. c. 140,~131)
any idea what the mgl etc is all about?
the back has, "122-131p is unlawful"

same as mine. No mag strip needed. the pin is in case they get a false match or a hit on the card (so a dealer told me, I've never used my pin)

the mgl references are just that, mgl references.

I have bought 3 firearms with the new style license. I have yet to use my pin number. Prob will never have 2.

MGL=Massachusetts General Law
c.140~131= Chapter 140 Section 131 which is:
Licenses to carry firearms; Class A and B; conditions and restrictions

If for some reason your finger print will not go through, you will need the pin number. Make sure you don't lose it. It's a good idea to have it when you go to buy a gun, Just in case.

My opinion, bad idea. If somebody was to "find" your ltc, they could use a person who looks similar to you and buy a gun pretending to be you. Some people here said they put their number in their cell phone. As long as it does not say "LTC PIN #" I think that is reasonable.

Someone on the board said they keep their PIN stored in their cell phone or PDA just in case...I keep it in my cell now.

That means your first purchase has to be for Martlet.
