There I was, just entered my local dealer's store, minding my own business when I happened to notice a new rifle sitting off to one side. Casually wandering over I saw that it was a Savage Model 10FP. Cool. I casually looked it over and inside of 30 minutes it was mine. Of course I had to give something up in order to get it (SWMBO) so I have a very nice Savage Model 16 SS .223 bolt rifle with a narrow barrel. Shoots very well in case anyone is interested.

Took it out to the range today and began the sighting-in process at 50 yards. The POI was much closer to the POA than I had any right to expect. Two five shot groups with Federal 5.56 55 gr BT ammo, each about 1.5". The second group is the highest, most centered five holes (this after a small adjustment up and left. Then three rounds of Georgia Arms 69 grain HP match ammo in the small target in the head area.

Since I am not that accomplished a rifle shooter I think these groups were very good for a first effort. Next step will be a 100 yard sighting in to see how good I can do at that distance.

This is easily the most accurate rifle I have ever owned.

I bought a Savage FP10 for my daughter when she turned 19.
Through a little bit of effort and about 30 rounds of test ammo, I found that a 53 grain SMK, 20.5 of H4198, Fed 205 primers and any commercial case will put 5 rounds under a dime at 100 yds.
She had the trigger lightened up by a gunsmith as it was before the days of the accu-trigger.
I found the stock to be a little too slight for me but the only reason she's now looking for a different one is she hurt her wrist at work and finds anything but a pistol grip/thumbhole stock very uncomfortable.
A very accurate rifle for the money.
