New Online Firearm License Application System

The Firearms Record Bureau has launched a new online portal for residents, and non-residents, to submit applications for new licenses as well as renewals. Portal link: Login | MIRCS Firearms Licensing Portal

The new system allows people to set up an account, like most online systems. Once that is accomplished, the application or renewal process can begin online. This system does not bypass the local licensing authority entirely. It does prevent local authorities from delaying taking applications for weeks or months.

As we understand it, as soon as the online application is completed and accepted the 40-day clock starts ticking. It doesn’t mean that the local authorities will not ignore the mandated timeline. What it does prevent is the state and the local authority blaming each other about delays. Supposedly, the applicant can log in and see exactly where the application is in the process. So, no chasing bad information.

GOAL will continue to update members about the new system as needed.

Nice, think i can renew my ltc online now instead of waiting for worcesterpd. Maybe i should call wpd to get an ok to renew online
Fck Worcester - put in the application and force their hand.
Unless you have something in your past that you are tip toeing past then your license is SHALL issue. The city is going to be foolish to try to play games now that the process has traceability and visibility.

How do you force them to issue the MIRCS receipt that is needed to exercise the "applied before expiration" renewal grace period?

Once you setup an account, there is a page indicating your current address, and you can also enter changes there if you get a new address.

Question: will this/can this, page be also used to inform your licensing authority as well as the FRB of any change of address per requirements of MGL Ch.40, s.129B and s. 131?

My license is listed, I have paperwork from submitting a renewal about 2 months ago that doesn’t show up in there, wonder when it will

Wow someone I know just called them today for a January renewal and was told the earliest they could get in was the middle of February!

I haven't created an account since I'm not renewing for several years but since the application is being input directly into the MIRCS system, one would assume the application date would be noted on any correspondence created by the system.

Yes - the system meets the requirement.
The certified mail stuff is gone.

I was wondering the same thing. Especially with IT stuff it seems like MA is perpetually stuck in the past. IF they followed the law on RFPs, bidding, and awarding contracts, I'd expect this to take well over a year from start to finish.

I wonder how long it took them to spin this up. I wonder if it's been designed to interface with any new registration systems. They must have issues an RFP, right?

It's a similar system to what the state uses for professional license applications and what PDs were using to enter information at the station. The state could have always done it this way this they went to the current system and chose not to.

Why the kentucky fried fsck would you decide to turn your right into a privilege, and put it at the whim of the local PD?

What are you going to do if the underpaid, underqualified goober on the other end of the phone says 'Yeah, I don't know anything about that - don't believe everything you read online.' ?
