Wife just applied for an LTC 'A' after completing both hunter safety and state police/NRA course. She was just contacted and told in addition to the information and references on the application she will need three letters of referral from non-family members and a note from her primary care physician stating that she is fit to carry. Is this old news or just the local official exercising their discretionary rights?

You mean, it's just the issuing authority acting like a bunch of jackbooted, rights suppressing thugs?

Sharon has always been on the "red list" as long as I can remember.

How about a letter from all your neighbors, minister, and local politicians. It is amazing how many hoops are created to turn off law abiding applicants. The funny thing is that the criminals do not need to go through all the red tape. They just get what they want without letters or paperwork. Tell me how this can be fair.

Letter from a PCP is bullshit.

What would it even say??

My patient is physically capable of lifting and carrying 27ozs??

My patient is mentally competent to own a firearm??-------- YEA!! That's a good one. Many people I've see at the range, gun shops, walmart ammo case, etc.. I wonder if they are mentally capable?? No one can make that determination.

How about---- My patient has the mental fortitude to know witch end the bullet comes out??---Now that one should be excepted by the chief!!

when my dad went for his pistol permit back in the 80s they wanted a letter 3 letters judge, doctor , and lawyer. Also all had to be noterized? @ the time my dad worked in boston and knew some layers, judges and doctors all of which bumped elbows at the same bar. I could only emagine the round count that day.

This is nothing new for that town. I know that this has been their ridiculous requirements for first time applicants for a very long time.

I hear that some doctors have a template letter already made up for their patients, just insert patient's name, date and doctor signs it after an exam.

It's BS, but certainly not "new BS".

Who cares, wouldn't be able to read it anyway. [wink]

The Sharon requirements are not new and we're very well aware of them. I have direct knowledge of one individual who declined to provide the requested letters and received an LTC from Sharon anyway. The only reason that the towns like Sharon and Braintree continue to require reference or doctor's letters is because people keep providing them.

I hope once we get a libertarian in office, that these anti-american thugs do jail time. That's right, I said it, if you restrict the second amendment, I hope you spend time in federal pmita prison.

Ticktock Michaeljr.....Ticktock :)

I had a guy from Sharon call me about a year ago saying the chief wanted him to shoot before he gave him an LTC. I quoted him a price but he didn't want to pay it, so I don't know how it turned out. This is the only person from Sharon (the next town over) I ever got a call from.

I don't think there is a big gun community in Sharon.

We instructors should probably set up an arrangement with a local physician to do phone interviews with Sharon applicants. Once Dr. Kinklebitz clears them, we can stamp their state certificates "NO DEFECTS."

Nothing more, nothing less.

Requirements for parking near Lake Massapoag:
- 150 letters of reference, each from a person living in a different country
- pee in a cup
- wear a hat with a carrot dangling from the brim, walk around with it for 6 days
- sit for interview, divine answers from Ouija board

I am moving to Sharon, I gave the police station a call regarding the renewal of my LTC. I currently have no restrictions and they said a renewal is considered like getting a new license. I would have to fill out all the paperwork like a new applicant and would be judged regardless of past history. Total BS, will be giving the lawyer a call if they add a restriction.

They did the same in my town, minus the doctors note that is a first for me.

Why wait for them to bend you over with no lube first? Get an attorney first so you can make sure the chief does his job properly!!

If it were me, I'd give the lawyer a call before they add the restriction. Before I applied, actually.
