My main love is the M-16, AR15, and I really like the 50 cal, which I fell in love with during basic training. Which some year I would really like t have one. I joined the Army, and I was a supply pogue who was trained for a motor pool, but got sent to a field station. Instead of dealing with vehicle parts,I dealt with computer parts. It is also where I met and married my husband. I am originally a west coast girl who for the last 20 years has been living here in MA. Our son has followed in mom and dads footsteps and joined the guard and is right now in basic training at Ft. Leonardwood. Although he's going for combat engineer. I am looking forward t going to his graduation the end of April.
Thanks for having me.

Good to have you MrsWildweasel.

I wish your son the best of luck in his training and career serving our country. You two must be very proud of him. :D

Thanks,We are very proud of him,and he caught alot of flack for joining when he was in school. He never waivered from his decision to join, and so far from what we have heard from him he is doing well. Some of his teachers even gave him guff about it. We signed for him when he was 17,and one of the things I really liked was here in MA they send the recruits to a pre basic on the cape so they get an idea of what basic training is all about. We had already prepared him,and he has been around weapons since he was small,so he knew what was in store for him. Plus my father-in-law was a Marine,so this kid has been doomed all his life. :D

That's good to hear. And I can believe the lib teachers around here would give him a hard time. As you already know, he's going to come out a better man from it.

Yes, I know he will have changed for the better, and I think he'll have more direction. Some of the teachers around here really amazed me. My son had one who was a communist and was really pushing her agenda. It was a definate education for me.

It's actually quite scary to think of the mindset for some of these teachers that are teaching our children. That's why it's so important to be the role model in a child's life, and not let the .gov guide them to a life of depending on the .gov to support them. Just my opinion

Oh most definately, my son would always question his commie teacher and at times when she did not like his replies would tell him to be quiet. He definately did not conform to the liberals way of viewing things. The worst part was this was at a voke school. My son was amazed at the sheep menatlity of most of the kids and teachers. The country boys did not fit in.

Unfortunately, I think the public school system has been sucking the individualality out of kids and instilling socialistic values. Somethings got to change.

I couldn't agree more. Something really has to change as far as the public schools. I was thankful I only had one kid go through. MCAS brought a little more standardization as to what is being taught, but it is not enough. I do feel that the school system needs to quit trying to teach morals, and what ever else is on their agenda to our kids. I know there is no good answer, but an overhaul is long due for public education.
And yes we taught our son well.

It sounds like you did. You're right, somewhere along the line the schools starting trying to teach morals instead of math and they're not doing very good at either. I wish I had the answer.

They are definately not doing very good at the teaching level. Maybe if they go back to the basics, but I also don't have the answers. It is also scary when my son was in school and he loves history and his favorite is WW2, but he knows alot about the other wars, etc, and his history teacher tells him he should be teaching the class since he knows more than the teacher. [roll] Maybe if they take away tenure too. It might make the teachers teach and not just get by so they can retire. I've seen far too many that should have retired along time ago and they just didn't have it in them for teaching anymore.

Funny you should say that. My business teacher in Highschool had two years left when I was a senior. He used to give out the assignment in the begining of the class then fall asleep at his desk until the bell. He used to do this at least 3 of the 5 days out of the week.

He had no business teaching business.

Welcome triumph. How much snow did you guys get up there so far?
One of the things that amazed me here,is my son had some of the same teachers my husband had as a kid. Even in elementary school. One of the teachers my son had in middle school my husband had and my husband said he had been ready for retirement when he was in. He would go into a trance,my husband said and the kids would run wild in the class. I know there is no easy answer, and I wish there was some kind of fix for public education. The irony is my mothers side of the family is teachers and they sent their kids to private schools.

Hows it going guys? just wanted to say thanks to Derek also for the great job on this site! Something new for NE except [evil] SNOW [evil] . Looking foward to the future events .
