Sold my Walther P1 (post war P38) as I am left handed and the cases hit me in the face. Replaced it with this Mauser made (byf) P38 from February 1944.

I now have the 1944 trifecta, and they were all made within a few weeks of each other (top to bottom): Walther (January 1944), Mauser (February 1944), and Spreewerke (March 1944).

Picked this up yesterday. They hadn't even had a chance put it fully into inventory before I snagged it.

First muzzleloader (Thompson Center Impact) and first piece of quality glass (Vortex Strikefire II). Had it out to zero today. I have a new favorite long gun (other than my AR).

Love the Impact, such a nice gun to shoot. If that doesn't make you enjoy shooting black powder than I don't know what will. What are you using for powder & bullets?

I was worried it was going to kick like a mule but it's amazingly soft shooting.

I'm using 250gr Shockwaves (With Sabot) with 100 grains of IMR White Hot. Shoots well.

I'm thinking about playing with different powders and bullets this summer. White Hot seems very dirty - Two shots at best before cleaning.

Agreed. It is more of a push than a kick when you shoot it.

I used Blackhorn 209 which is supposedly low residue and could go a few shots before sending down a spit wad :)

Never did get to take a deer with it (yet) but I imagine a 290 grain T-EZ round would do the job nicely!

I'm thinking about using powder for the first shot and pellets for followups in the woods. I gather that the powder is a bit cleaner burning than the pellets. Experimenting is going to be fun!

What kills me is if I had this gun in December, I'd have venison in my freezer. I missed a doe at 50 yards with my smoothbore barrel on the 870.

I have two of them just to extend the deer season. But have to tell you.....the trigger is actually VERY good. 3 rounds touching at 50 yard accuracy with the standard Williams sights too. I take them out to play even in the summer.
