New Acquisitions for November 2011

Gen 4 G26. Put 300 rds through it this afternoon on paper and steel. It's as accurate as I am. Takes a little getting used to having your little finger under the magazine on the draw stroke, and the thumb of the support hand pushed out to the muzzle. Feels nearly identical to the 17 when you toss 17 mags in it. Target is a speed bull shot at 15 yards.

Nice pickup. I like mine, and for some reason I tend to shoot it "at speed" a lot better than the Gen4 G17 I have.

My first AR

I just picked up my first AR on black friday. A friend of mine and myself took the long trek to visit Remsport. It was worth the trip...

Its a LRM lower with Remsport lower kit, A2 stock, Its a Remsport upper sporting a 24” Shilen 204 Ruger bull barrel

I stole the scope off of my 308 for now until I can afford to buy another one, its a Sightron 6-24 LRMOA reticle with tactical knobs.

I loaded up 80 rds with Nosler 32gn Ballistic Tips with 28.5gns of Varget as a starting load and she was shooting 5 shot groups under 1”. Not too bad for a new barrel and not working up loads.

I will get some better images up soon, anyone have a good load for the 204 in an AR

Happy Thanksgiving to me!

It is my first pre-ban lower. Already ordered parts for it. Bunch of BCM parts as well as a Yankee Hill flash hider and Troy 15" TRZ Extreme rail. Planning on a BCM 16" barrel with mid length gas system once the barrel is back in stock.

Nice! I have a stop-sign SGW lower too. I just put a BCM upper on it too.

Aside from 50 BMG I think 204 Ruger is the most fun to shoot round out there. Screaming at over 4200 fps it turns a can of soda into vapor.
I've been shooting Hornady 32 gr V-Max through my Ruger M77 in 204 and accuracy is better than anything I've ever shot. I've saved all my brass for when I do start reloading and hope to at least duplicate the results I get from the Hornady box ammo or better.

I've been looking at those "ground hog blower uppers" for a little while. Whats the barrel life like on something like that? I was researching the .223 WSSM (3100 - 4600 FPS) and my Hornady guide states that after 350 rounds their barrel showed significant erosion. It didn't say what their medium velocity was throughout the testing.

With the 204 Ruger doing 3100 - 4200 FPS, I would imagine it could have the same effects on the barrel.

When I first looked into buying a rifle chambered in 204 Ruger I did some research on it and found that Ruger had problems burning out barrels but redesigned their M77 rifles to compensate for such a hot round. This was a few years ago so I'm guessing manufacturers have addressed this.
