what does "bump" mean??

They are 'bump'ing the thread to the top of the forum. Anytime something new gets posted in a thread, it put's that thread at the top of the forum.

Also, you'll see BTT - Bump To Top

why would they want to bump it to the top?

Usually in the 'Classifieds' section to show the item is still for sale. After a week or so the ad could be three pages deep. There are rules to 'bump'ing classifieds, it can only be done so often. Too often and the ad will get deleted.

Another reason to bump is if an event is coming up soon and people may have forgoten about it. Instead of creating a new thread, they will just bump the old one.

not sure if bump is covered but its typically used to bring the thread back to the top of new post..

Used allot in the forsale section if no interest after a week people will "BUMP" their threads to bring that back to the top..

That very well could be the BTT abbreviation. I always thought Bump To Top. Either way it gets the same result.
