Needs ideas for adding automatic lights to safe

All suggestions welcomed and appreciated!!!

Ready go

I am in the process of doing this as well and I think I am going witht eh led strips and a plunger or reed switch on the door to control them. I am sick of having to take the flashlight to the safe

Maxxum2012 just did his safe, I might have even helped a little. He bought everything at U-Do-it Electronics in Needham, used the LED strips and a motion switch, came out real nice. Perhaps he'll be along with some pics and a parts list.

you can use a plunger switch. i think i have a few laying around somewhere. gotta check though. they come in different sizes. i would recommend one with a medium size plunger that way you have more throw and dont have to be so precise with the adjustment on how far out you have to put it so the door activates it. they come with both normally open and normally closed contacts.

I did battery powered LED lights with a remote switch - I would not recommend this route.
When I upgrade, I'm going to combine the LED strip idea several people here have done with this automatic switch:

MCM has a bunch of strip lighting options, including T and 90 degree connectors to build out the light arrays. Can get spendy, tho:

seems neat but i would rather go with the plunger IMO. I dont like the idea of it sensing light to turn on you leds. what if i open my safe and its dark. or what if it becomes more difficult to find a mounting location since it has to sense light.

edit: just saw that it has an ir that reads when the door is open and breaks when the door is closed. sounds like it might work. first review i read said it didnt work well. do some research if you go that route

I wired some old X-mas lights into the Goldenrod cord and put an inline switch on the side right next to the door frame. Works for my needs.

I have since added 2 pistol racks. One for revolvers and one for autos. [smile]

Holy shit! I have the same safe minus all the cool shit inside. What I did was cut an extension cord, fed it through the back of the safe and put a quad receptacle in there. From here, I got a motion sensor (Link) and wire it to an adapter to plug it in 120V and wired up LED lights (link). I hot glued the LED to the underside of the walls so you can't see them using a glue gun. There are connectors you may need to buy to connector/ make 90 degree bends for the LED's and plug them in to a transformer. when I open the safe, they automatically come of for around 30 seconds or so. Pretty pimp.

I did it the lazy way for a while:

Wireless motion sensing lights that you can Velcro on. Takes 3xAA batteries each. I don't remember having to ever replace the batteries in 2+ years.

Upgraded to LED strip lights:

I put a dimmer switch on them as that's what I had laying around. Would really like to change it to a motion sensor or door switch.

This is what i used, cheap and fast. The rocker switch didnt work very well so im only using the manual switch.

I bought a 2 pack of led strips at costco with motion sensors built in for $20
Open it up, maybe wave my hand in it, and there is light.

Exactly.

Put in twenty feet of LED rope light, same net effect as a small goldenrod.

Ha! Not a bad idea. Instead of changing my switch out for a door switch I might just do that. You only need a small amount of heat to do what a goldenrod does. LED's don't put out much heat, but they do generate a little bit.

Wow my safe is pathetic.

Do most of you guys leave your pistol boxes and accessories somewhere other than ur safes? I need to do some safe leaning to make more room.

That molle panelling is awesome

I just have all my boxes/cases/bags on top till I move and get more room/space/mantown/etc.
