I have a friend coming out from Utah for a visit March 18 to March 27. He has never shot an IDPA match, but would like to give it a try. Any practice or matches scheduled in that time frame? The 27th is fly day, so he can't shoot that day. Steel Plate? Anything for some fun. He, like me, has been shooting over 45 years, so he is experienced with a hand gun.

I don't know where you are, but Harwinton R&G (CT) has an informal IDPA shoot on the 11th of April. $10, open to the public.

There's a combat shoot at Chris' Indoor Range (Guilford) most Thursday nights, steel plates every Friday night at NHSC (Guilford), and plates/IDPA alternating Tuesday evenings at Bridgeport.

The Hartford Gun Club (East Granby, CT) and Metacon (Simsbury) also do the full-fledged IDPA matches.

Also Tactical Rifle match Sunday AT Nauset Rod and Gun in Eastham. 200 round minimum centerfire rifle or pistol caliber carbine. One 80 round, one 60 round so bring mags.

Nauset has a web site with directions.

G'D' it, I am planing on shooting IDPA at Bass River that day. I am itching to get my AR outside for a work out.

I know, but I already committed to my girlfriend to shoot IDPA with her. I WILL be at the one on the 25th of April.

What is the course of fire usually set up like, what kind of gear is needed? I am sure I have all of the required gear, just want to make sure.

Steel at 100yds, no steel core ammo or green tip, enough mags to handle an 80 round course, sling, chamber flag, usual stuff

Well the gf is backing out on me, and I am VERY interested in this Carbine Match, do you happen to know how much the registration fee is?

Here it is from the e mail

One stage will start at approx. the 120 yd. line, have 5 shooting positions as you progress through the course and require a minimum of 60 rounds. The Range 2 course will require a minimum of 80 rounds. And who knows what surprise we'll have set up in The Pit? 200 rounds will get you through the match unless you need to stay and shoot one of them a second time! Cost is $20. Sign in by 9am, shooting to begin at 9:30am.
