i just bought an sks and was wondering how i'd find out when it was imported into country and state i was told that if it was before 1988 then i could posses the 30rnd mags legally? appreicate any info on the subject thanks

you can possess any 30 rd mags made before the 1994 cut off date, the date of import for the sks does not matter IRT high cap mags.

The age of the gun doesn't matter. You can possess the 30 round mags legally as long as you have an LTC and the mags themselves were manufactured prior to 09/14/1994. The reference to 1988 is likely referring to the federal statute 18 USC 44 § 922(r) which, through some further regulations, only allows you to have 10 foreign parts on your SKS if you modify it from its original configuration.

Is it a Yugo? If so, the gas cut off for the grenade launcher is probably in the wrong position.
