need left hand tap

Im in need of a 16mm x 1mm left had tap as i have an idea for a thread protector for my pistol. If anyone around south shore ma has one tht i could either borrow or buy from that that would be great.

Cant you just turn a regular tap upside down (cut the shank off and bevel the tip first.)?
