Need help iwith old Colt revolver

My friend finally got his grandfather's gun returned a real long story. It's a Colt Police Positive 38 I do have the serial number don't know if should be published in the open.. Any Colt people can tell me anything about it?

W/O the serial number, no one can definitively say much about it. At least the first few numbers. They were made in the first half of the last century. About 50 yr run. So no younger than 1950.
 
Colt has pretty good archival info on-line.
Look into it with model and serial number, I bet you have some luck.
Real pretty gun.

Yes @Picton they are the original grips. Very light turn ring on the cylinder a little wear/slight if that on the muzzle and front sight so I am assuming someone holstered it at one time.
 
It's a nice piece. I had a 1914 New Service once, essentially your revolver's big brother, and that thing was built like a tank.
