I got in a discussion this weekend with a friend over a couple beers and he said he wished he had followed through and got his national pistol permit. I said I think I know a fair amount about things but have never heard of this.
Is there such a thing?
He also said an FFL gives you the right to carry a concealed pistol in all states. I told him I believed him to be incorrect on that also.
Am I right or wrong?

No wait...I've heard of this. You apply the same place you get the Cape Cod Canal Tunnel Permits.....[rofl]

There are only two or three end-arounds on national CCW:

-HR218, which applies to all sworn law enforcement officers, and a
few other rare classes (eg, FBOP employees).

-Sworn US Marshal (some -REALLY- politically connected people
got it, not sure if its done anymore, that whole thing is kind of
kept very quiet).

-Supposedly, fed judges could issue some sort of blurb stating
you were allowed to carry anywhere, but when I heard this it sounded
dubious, and even if it's not, it's probably rare and only a handful of
people have the parchment to show for it.

None of the above three is in anyway ever mentioned as a "nationwide CCW
permit". There is no such card, ID, etc, that bears that terminology nor
is it used anywhere in the law.

-FFLs get no special carry privledge. All they really get is leverage
in transferring firearms, and depending on the type of FFL, they get
permission to make C3 toys, but thats only in the case of a
licensed manufacturer.

If someone says something about them having privledges that most others
do not, or you've never heard of, theres a 99% chance that it's BS. Most
of these people say stuff like that as a self ego buff, to try to make
themselves appear better than everyone else. Most of the people who
have such privledges do not brag to anyone else about them, period.

I'm surprised the guy didnt say he could have taken a test to carry a gun on a
plane, too. Hell, most federal agents don't even get to do it unless theyve taken
a course, and are "on duty".

HAHAHA I doubt if my beer drinking redneck buddy fit any of the above catagories. I just like to make sure I am right when I call bullshit on someone.
Thanks.

I had a former supervisor said he had one of these. I called BS and asked to see his. He stated that he did not have it on his person at the time.
When I asked how he got it, he said "They issue them to Navy Seals, which I was".
Well, I found out that he was not a former SEAL and just chalked this up to more BS. Since then, he has no credibility with me.

You should have asked him to show you his "seal impression" and see if he could do "urp, urp" while catching fish with his big mouth! [rolleyes] [laugh2]

Absolutely NO SUCH THING as any national carry permit, FFLs can NOT carry anything anywhere on their FFL, and it's simply amazing what alcohol can do to the brain! [rolleyes]

The "National Concealed Carry Permit" seems to be a regular fantasy among the wanna-be crowd. You see this repeated from time to time on most of the firearms forums.

Yeah, he was a bozo. Real navy SEALS posted his picture on the Wall of Shame over at Authentiseal.com.

Another wannabe I worked with came up with this gem "If you own more than 6 handguns, you automatically qualify for an FFL!". [rofl] [rofl] [rofl] [rofl] [rofl]

My buddy has quite a few guns, hunts a lot and has his NY pistol permit.
He was gtalking about getting his FLA non resident permit because of the amount of states that reciprocate and then made the comment.
He was much more loaded than me and then i called BS.

I went to AutintiSEAL.com today and unfortunatly they shut it down due to lack of resourses.

Active duty military has some funny regs. I mean sheesh, I "invaded" Canada by parachute in '94 while carrying an M9 while in the 82nd. Nobody asked for my steenkin' "permit" when I landed.
I knew two Navy types who were "Sky Marshall's" and were issued .38s and cuffs to fly on aircraft during the 70s as special detail.
I can't tell you how many times I crossed state lines with M16s, M9s, Saws, etc. while on active duty so there may be some truth to that SEAL stuff.
Look at all the MPs who escort prisoners across state lines.

As far as Marshalling goes, I believe that's how Dianne F(rank)einstein (D-CA) is allowed to carry her pistola. The most rabid anti-gunner in the Senate and she's packing. Go figure.

One thing about all persons who have these "federal carry permits"

#1 - They "don't have it with them"

or

#2 - They "didn't bother to renew it"

but never

"here is is ... take a look"

Actually it is not the military that has funny regs, but most states exempt them from firearms regulations while on active duty.

IIRC, Georgia exempts active military from these regs while on or off duty.
