BOSTON -- A 16-year-old student was arrested Wednesday after he brought a BB gun to a Westford school, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office.

According to Wicked Local, the Nashoba Valley Technical High School principal noticed an "unwanted student" wandering the halls on a surveillance camera. The principal said it appeared the student had a large weapon.

I work right across the street and wondered what all of the cop cars a media vans were all about. The wife IM'd with the story.

What an idiot kid.

Are they aware that it was raining today and that umbrellas are ok? [wink]

When did schools start having surveillance cameras, and which students are unwanted?

What the hell is an unwanted student? Was he a student or not?

At first, I was concerned because I live about 1/4 mile from that school, but I think I am safely out of BB range.

Drove past there during lunch, wondered what was going on.

"The student, whose name was not released, will be arraigned in Juvenile Court in Lowell on charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, possession of a pellet gun and disturbing a school assembly.

No injuries were reported, and no shots were fired, according to the District Attorney's Office."
This has me confused, is just carrying a BB gun in Ma "assault with a dangerous weapon"?

How many BB guns out there look like a real gun? You can understand them going into lock down
until they know what is going on.

Westford cops don't mess around!

I remember when i was in high school, buddies got pulled over and guns drawn on them because some one called in that they had a weapon (it was a supersoaker). They yelled "Get your hands up, or we'll ventilate you!!!!" [laugh]

Yea you know. Any Student that believe's in the Second Amendment is a unwanted student.

scaring people is assault ?

So he's facing a few hundred counts of assault with a 'deadly' weapon? "Unwanted" is really ambiguous terminology, it was lunch, anyone could have been walking through the halls..

His defense should be; Your honor I was not in possession of a deadly weapon, [whips out a .45] this is a deadly weapon.

"Unwanted" is referring to the fact that the kid was suspended the previous week. Crappy term for it IMHO.

So...sounds like the kid had other issues BEFORE this little boo-boo.

Here is a photo of the "gun" he brought to school.

I can understand why people might be afraid. Look at it from the principals point of view. Trouble maker kid out on suspension is walking the halls with what looks like a gun. It's grounds for worry.

Now whether what he did was assault that really depends on how people reacted to him. I would think the principal was afraid, if not for himself then for his students.
