So long story short the Chief denied me for a last incident of (History of Violence was the reason from many many years ago that I never was convicted of.) I was able to obtain my FID no issues. Can I reapply with the new chief? Also if I do and I'm denied, I got a notice last time that I needed to trade in all firearms that I had owned after denial (Which I didnt own any at the time). I just purchased a $1000 shotgun setup with my FID and not about to lose that for obvious reasons LOL. Does anyone know if it's even worth it? I know I probably should have fought it although I was lucky to obtain the FID in my eyes.

You have a good case. I was charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon when I was a juvenile. Case was dismissed because I didn’t do it. Well, I did but it was clearly self defense and there was no weapon involved.

I got my LTC but had to write a letter to the chief explaining the circumstances of the incident.

Also this was back in the 80’s and I’ve never been in trouble since.

Yep. Had a buddy who subjected to a BS temporary restraining order by an ex. She never showed up to the hearing and it was lifted. He still had to disclose that on his application and had to speak to the chief about it. Still got his LTC.

Get an attorney. If this is a suitability issue you got a reset, you have ONE chance not to f*** it up.

Nice! Im mind baffled as to why I was allowed FID if not LTC. Looks as if a lawyer is in my near future.

What is this new semi auto law thing? I was bummed when I found out that I couldn't have semi auto.
You will need to upgrade out of an FID if you want to retain or legally own even the most basic semiautomatic firearms. There's an exemption that temporarily allows FID to keep guns in this class but you can't buy any additional ones until you upgrade.

@nstassel

You need to hire a firearms attorney. Do not try this on your own.

I strongly suggest that you stop posting about your situation. Yes, police departments have seen people’s posts on NES in the past and made life painful for them as a result. Just send a request via pm to a moderated and we will delete this thread for you.

An LTC may be denied if the issuing authority declares you to be at risk of viiolent behavior.

In order to deny an FID, the issuing authority must obtain a court order. A rubber stamp, but (a) it may not be perceived as a bother, and (b) the chief can hide behind "the law made me issue it" if you go postal.

And dude, please learn how to spell. It is spelled "chief" not "cheif". I fixed your original post because I couldn't stand looking at it.

Remember in grade school when they taught you the mnemonic "i before e, except after c?" Now, there are exceptions to that mnenomic, but "chief" isn't one of them.

Sure, but not without a Lawyer.

Whoever coined that phrase was an idiot. I before E except after C but not always is simply placing a thought structure into people that isn't always true.

Yes, there are exceptions, like many other things in the English language. But it should help to remember that chief is not spelled cheif. Same for friend, not freind.

Wells that's a way to make me feel awful about myself. I was typing quickly on my phone and I have big fingers and my phones autocorrect is wonky.

Phone typing is the worst. Autocorrect sometimes makes "amusing" choices...

Googling "autocorrect fails" is always good for some amusement.
