Hey so picked up a Mossberg 500AB 12ga 26in barrel with C-LECT Choke last week and i cant wait to shoot it...i just need to find a place to shoot it, But i want to get the forums' thoughts on modifying the choke...well i was thinking of getting rid of it. Would that be a smart choice,,i want it to be a defense/just for fun gun. Does anyone know of any good smiths that could help me out? Thanks people

if you want a defense gun, drop a c note and buy an 18.5 inch barrel for it, and when you want to go shoot other things, you can put the longer barrel back on.

That's what I did with my 870, along with changing the furniture. I also have a +3 tube on it. Just remember if you hunt ( I don't) remove the +3 before going out into the field

Look on Gunbroker for used barrels. I've got a Winchester 1200 that I have two barrels for. One is a 26" poly-choked barrel. The other started life as a 28" mod choke barrel. Once I bought it off Gunbroker for $40 I took 9.5" off the barrel and presto, there is your 18.5" home defense barrel.

I used a hacksaw to rough cut the barrel, squared up the cut with a file, dressed the filed edges with 240 grit sandpaper, polished with 1200 grit, and used Formula 44/40 to cold blue the raw metal. Had a friend with a Bridgeport drill and tap the barrel for a new bead.

Pics can be seen in the tactical shotgun picture thread.
