Well I bit the bullet and bought scout rifle. I have wanted a short full powered handy rifle for a long time. There were a couple of options in my price range but the Ruger won. I compared it to the mossberg mvp but I thought it felt cheap and I hated the sights. Also the bolt felt gritty and sloppy.
What I like the most I'd the Ruger is as small as my m1 carbine and handles excellent. I almost some looking forward to some range time with it.

Congrats!

I got one almost two years ago, have yet to mount optics. Can't tell what state you're in, but Ruger's Gunsite Scout makes a fine suppressor host, there's even a specially tuned subsonic loading, the "Setpoint SS"

it's a nice rifle. you will enjoy. i was previously running a leupold scout scope but finally got sick of that configuration and went with a burris fullfield II in standard configuration. great setup for 300+ yards

Congrats. I was torn between the MB and the Ruger. Without a bullet even fired my MB is on its way back to Texas. Im jealous haha

I know the pictures are terrible.[/QUOTE]

Is that the .308 or the .556 model? Sweet looking rifle either way!

I made it to the range on saturday morning. I was very excited for this particular visit to the range because my brother who has been in the Army for 21 years joined me. We have not gone shooting together since around 1992. I spent about $150 in ammo but it was worth it.
I brought the following firearms..
HK45
USP .45
VP9
French mab model d
S&W 22a
S&W 340 pd
S&W Governor
Gunsite scout .308
Troy industries AR
Savage .17 hmr
Mosin Nagant M44
Anyway I will get back to my review of the gunsite scout.
I absolutely love how handy this rifle is and it feels very good when I hold it to my shoulder. The bolt operated better than I expected and was smooth and clean. I did not have a single problem at all after 80 rounds down range. The sights were excellent and very easy to use. I was in the Navy and Army so I am used to and like the sight setup. I was making 300 yard off hand shots at a 12 inch gong with mild effort. The build quality is excellent and my rifle has a perfect finish. The recoil was very manageable. I did not shoot for accuracy yet but I have no doubt it will be acceptable.
My daughter also joined us and she impressed me to no end. She is 14 and for the first time shot more than a .22 or .380. She shot everything I brought and loved it.

BTW ruger release a version w polymer stock. i would love to pickup just the polymer stock itself but haven't seen any.

ruger's website lists the polymer stock version at nearly a pound lighter, which is sweet IMO.
