your tight sphincter
if you decide that you want another AR-15, go for a direct gas impingement rifle- that way you have a piston and a dgi rifle to compare.

and give this thread a read

http://www.northeastshooters.com/vbulletin/threads/124511-AR15-s-Who-makes-the-best-ones-and-why

it's a good start to do some footwork if you want to buy a quality rifle, or assemble one. I highly recommend the latter, but that's coming from a guy that enjoys building rifles as much a shooting them. That and you can make anything from a marksman's rifle to a service rifle replica. There are many flavors of the rainbow to the AR, and interestingly enough, you started with one of the more unique ones (gas piston instead of DGI). It's good to see that it's running properly.

Sounds like you bought Someone's POS Franken gun they could not get to work correctly. Who knows what spring and buffer you have or who put it together. They couldn't make it work so they traded it now you can't make it work.

I will be happy to pass your remarks on to Stag Arms. I am sure they will want to call someone with like you, with your vast knowledge of their "franken gun" in for an interview to correct their mistakes. Of course, they will ask if you read the sign at the door stating:

"Dumbutts Who Do Not Read Need Not Apply"

You will of course reply "Read? Why bother with that! I am Delta Not So Elite, Screw That! YOU NEED ME to fix your POS guns!"

After which, the interviewer will politely escort you to the main lobby, telling you that he thinks you are a great candidate and will certainly be getting back to you, just wait for the call.

If you could not figure that out.....It is not SOMEONE'S POS FRANKEN GUN, as was posted EARLIER, the gun is made by Stag Arms, Model 8. It was not "traded", it was sold by a retail store. I know exactly WHO put it together, I also know who does not bother to read threads before spouting off their mouths, that be you.

skipped to page 3. got pictures of the rifle? still does in fact sound like a frankengun. pics? let's see the beast. for what you paid i hope that it's flawless--and it sounds like it's not.

we will offer advice and try to help with issues you have, but if you're just going to cry and whine and be your usual self people won't want to even try. lots of guys posted suggestions and information so even despite your bad attitude they are trying to help.

if you don't want help i can just post some racist and/or homophobic comments and then mention cats and abortion, or a cat abortion and get the thread closed for you since it is of no use to you.

just sayin'.

Sounds like its your POS franken gun

Here is a simple fact, a lot of shooters view ALL AR's as "franken guns" since they look like something made up from a gun makers lego set. Here, I got this piece, it will fit on here, wow, this doo dad screws on over there, etc. IMHO, that is also what makes them very attractive.

I do not think it is a POS, a problem does not make something a POS. Just a problem that needs to be resolved. But if it makes YOU feel better about yourself to call something a franken gun and label it a POS, have at it.

if your new gun is having cyling issues, it's a POS.

New AR15s are supposed to work out of the box with no problems.

Yanno, it is starting to run a lot better, not sure which page indicated that, I am too lazy this morning to scroll back.

I have not been whining and crying, just letting folks know my experience with the rifle. If you read my posts, you will note that I am just working through any issues with the rifle, not blasting the manufacturer or anything like that.

Got some really good suggestions, it has been over 40 years since I handled an M-16, so some of the guys fixed some problems I had, like trying to insert a mag with the bolt closed, DUH!

Now, your last comment, about cats, abortions, that got me laughing......

Gonna get the rifle out, get a decent pic, go to photobucket and get it posted. Take a few.

I will comment on that. It needs to be ever closer to your rear eye because the rear sight should not be in focus at all.

But hey, what do I know.....I only made Master in NRA highpower shooting an iron sighted AR15 service rifle.

You said it was a Delton model eight correct in your original post?

New AR15s are supposed to work out of the box with no problems.

The operative word above is "supposed".

What I know is that things, are not always what they are "supposed" to be. When that happens, I can then:

Declare them to be a "POS". Which does absolutely nothing. It may make me look stupid when someone points out that I had made a simple mistake and the item was NOT a POS.

-or-

I can attempt to work out what is causing the malfunction. If it becomes apparent that the item was grossly under engineered, generally poorly manufactured, then I need to do something different.

But declaring IT IS A POS is pretty much a worthless pursuit.

Yup, and that was a mistake. It is a Stag Model 8.

So much fail in one thread... [laugh]

Your rifle is broken, you should fix it. [wink]

Break-in to smooth things out? Sure, no matter how carefully you machine things, some run time will make them smoother.

Break-in to function? Excuse for poor workmanship.

Gas pistons on ARs can be tricky because they are all different. If the bolt is moving back enough to eject the round, then it should reset the trigger. If not, then the dimensions of the trigger group are wrong (either the hammer/trigger pin holes are in the wrong place or the hammer/trigger parts machine incorrectly - both can happen with cheap parts). You may also have to experiment with buffers and springs to get a gas piston system working reliably.

M4 feed ramps are cut into the upper so that the feed ramp starts at roughly the bottom of the upper and continues smoothly through the barrel extension (the part you can see in the inside of the upper where the bolt/locking lugs engage). The transition from upper to barrel extension is sometimes rough (gap or barrel extension protrudes beyond the surface of the upper). This causes feeding issues, not cycling or trigger reset.

Hope you get your rifle squared away. Hope you get your history squared away even more... The wisdom the founders encoded into our Constitution and system of governance was not new information, or merely a matter of opinion. They were re-stating lessons that had been learned 2000 years prior. The reality of the human condition and the tendency for governments to progress to tyranny has not changed in human history and certainly not in the brief time since their death.

They do when put together with quality components and a little thought. They run very well. This gun sounds like the other end of the spectrum.

Shit, the box o' parts rifle I put together drunk in my basement with the wrong tools runs great, and has since the day after I bled all over it from using channel locks to assemble it. But, it's not an $1100+ Stag with a retarded piston, so what do I know.

I think stag chose that symbol to show you what you would be if you used this rifle to defend yourself... Food! [laugh]

I would normally agree with you about that, however, my vision is such that if I move it back, I do not even get a "blurred" rear ring, which is what I should be seeing. Trust me on this one, I do a LOT of aperture and peep shooting. I would not recommend that placement for anyone else either.

We are in agreement, so do not ARGUE!!!!

Yup, and that was a mistake. It is a Stag Model 8.

Typically if an AR doesn't work right off the shelf, it should be returned. There's no excuse for that kind of poor craftsmanship in the AR market. That said, getting a crappy AR as one's first foray into black rifles is usually a pretty positive experience in my opinion. It lets one know exactly what they're looking for when they buy a quality carbine.

I can see this is going to turn into a: My AR is better than your AR discussion. The popular method of that here seems to be by running down the other guy's POS, thereby making one's own POS somehow better.

So, while you are all busy doing that, I will take MY POS shit down to the range (which is nicely covered), shoot my boolits between the raindrops and think about you morons arguing stupid crap.

C'ya, have a nice morning! :::::waving::::::

correction: I won't even bother thinking about you morons at all, come to think of it...

Why do you have to go negative? Are you looking for one of us to attack you?

My rifles are better then yours, and you are acting like a fool. Happy?

Read Timber's post again. This is a crowded, commodity market. There is no excuse for lacking basic functionality.

That said, at the very least you will learn where additional dollars go and why they are worth it faster from a POS than you will from a rifle that is "good enough" and works fine if not pressed.

My POS rifles are awesome in their own right, I don't need to tear yours down - in fact, broken rifles make me a little sad unless you are shooting at me and then they make me happy, but that doesn't happen very often. [wink]

Dude, if I found myself defending the fact that I'd bought an off the shelf Stag (bad enough in its own right) which subsequently didn't work, I'd be a little defensive, too. Kind of like if someone caught me humping a sheep wearing Attila's banana costume.
