Model 1842 Springfield manufactured in 1848. It had an overall 'attic brown patina' (I call it rust) over its entirety. It also had a modified 1816 percussion conversion hammer that had been cut and welded to 'fit' along with an altered tumbler. The stock was cracked behind the lock plate in a few spots. If I can get far enough away I'll try to squeeze the whole thing into a photo.

I've replaced the hammer and tumbler with originals and repaired the stock. The contact face of the hammer was pretty chewed up from dry firing I imagine so I silver soldered then machined the surface flat. I used electrolysis on the metal to remove corrosion and cleaned the stock with denatured alcohol then lightly oiled it with BLO.

The bore has some corrosion from the muzzle inward a few inches. I'm trying to decide if I want to try electrolysis in it or use mechanical means. The muzzle was a little banged up so I tossed the barrel on the lathe and squared it.

Yes, I have fired it. [smile]
