I reload my BPCR rounds on a Lyman turret press. When I get to the powder charging position I would always remove the case. place it under a drop tube, pour in powder and return the case to the turret for compression (if any), wad and bullet seating and crimp (if any). The other day I got to thinking that it would save a little time if I could somehow incorporate the drop tube onto the turret. Below is what I came up with and it works really well. I put the drop tube through a 45/120 taper crimp die and the rubber gasket rings hold it in place. When I move the case to that position I just lift the tube slightly and lower it into the case mouth, pour the powder down the drop tube and then lift the tube slightly and move to the next position. Because the tube extends all the way through the relatively long die it is very stable and does not wobble when being moved. I really like this set up. Although I enjoy taking my time when reloading BPCR I find this to be a bit smoother and more enjoyable.

Do you load standing or sitting? My back hurts just looking at the picture.

Your heights look way out of proportion to do either comfortably.

Can't you take a tubing cutter and cut the height of that tube down so you can dump powder from a sitting position?

I load standing and am looking for a 24" drop.

The drop tube is typically used for charging cases when loading black powder rifle cartridges. The theory is that slowly pouring the powder down a drop tube allows an even settling and gets more powder into the case. Bottom line is better performance. It is slow and tedious, however, that is a common factor of shooting black powder in general. It is not for everyone, but I enjoy it.
