Thank you all. I have no proof the dot is a bringback but the dealer who sold it to me bought it from an older guy who’s father was a vet.

Here’s another Gew 98M. This one is matching aside from a mismatch extractor and an unnumbered front sight. The parts are from mixed eras with the buttplate coming from a Saxon Sterngewehr and the stock having a Su25 Spandau refurb marking. The gentleman who I purchased this one from was a good friend of John Wall’s. He purchased this rifle from John several years ago, as it was one of the more interesting Gews Mr. Wall had.

Heres another Czech, this one is a seldom seen VZ23. It retains its original stock and has been lightly Germanized with the bolt being blued and electro pencil numbered to match. Also a few of the smaller parts were stamp renumbered to match by the Germans.

One last one, another former Craig Brown piece. An early 1904 Spandau Gew 98 that is mostly matching (Mismatch rod, extractor and bolt release). No depot markings or force matched parts and unit marked to a reserve pioneer regiment.

Shall we revive this thread? Here’s a matching Dou42 K98k, duffel cut.

Here’s my favorite Gew 98. It’s an Ingolstadt depot build of an older 1907 Spandau reciever. Completely matching down to the screws and the barrel bears Bavarian lion proofs. What makes this one better is the EWB marking, which was a right wing Bavarian militia after WW1, no doubt this gun was hidden away between the wars as it didn’t get updated to 98M specs and it’s duffel cut. Finally the best thing about this rifle is that it’s KBE marked. The KBE was the Royal Bavarian railroad, they operated until 1920 and to date this is the only matching KBE marked rifle that’s been recorded.

Here’s a matching 1936 Czech VZ24. Lion crested, not import marked and I suspect this one was in German hands, as there’s no front sight hood and the follower has been modified to prevent closure on an empty magazine.

Here’s my favorite a WW Greener Belgian 1889. I’ve heard 80 of these were made but there’s no solid source on that number. Either way not many were made period, I know of two in the USA this one and another that came from Bruce Sterns collection. Greener was intent on going into production of the Belgian 1889 during WW1 for the Belgian government but never achieved it. This very rifle is pictured in the Belgian section of Robert Balls Military Mauser book.

The bolt is in the white but the follower wont close on an empty mag. Czech guns as issued would close on an empty magazine.

Very nice, took my m96/38 out last week.
Im deep cleaning the bore right now. Lots of fouling. Not much copper coming out yet though.
Did 2 good foam bore cleaner/brushings last night and bore is soaking with Gunzilla now. Once the patches start coming out clean i will give it a copper solvent flush. Bore looked good at first so should look really good when done.
Got 80 rounds in the deal so a test fire is soon to come

PPU, or something more exotic?

Been meaning to do a PPU standard vs. PPU Match vs. my handloads comparison, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
Ppu think its soft points? Not looked yet. Need to order some bullets and stop by gun shop.
Seems every swede loader gets all yank happy over RL22?

I just tried RL19 recently because I couldn't get RL22. I also tried something else but I can't remember, would need to check my notes.

Alliant is the parent company, I don't remember where it's actually made though.
Alliant is owned by Vista Outdoors/ATK Global
Like most powder companies they are subbed out relabeled and such. Its right on the bottle where its made. Very little is made here in the USA.
Lots of powder comes out of Australia and Europe. I think General Dynamics is pumping powder out of FL and Canada , its all ball powder IIRC. fun stuff

just cleaned the be geez out of the bore and got a lot of copper. My hopes are not high for a steller performer. crown and muzzle end are not exactly prestine. has some Frosting of the grooves for sure. Might give it another scrub ? Giving it a final foam bore cleaning and call it done and empty some brass for now.

I've used 4320 in my swede for years. I had good accuracy pushing a 124 gr pill about 2600 fps. I went to order more to discover it has been discontinued. grrr..
