FIFY. That piece of shit wishes there was someone there to put out the fire where his now.
I'm still waiting to hear if they find bodies in the house he set fire to.

Now this was something that absolutely could have been prevented.
Had he been given the death penalty, or at least life without parole, for the murder of his grandmother.
I say this is a better argument for capital punishment than for gun control.
I agree with you, this guy should have stayed locked up. I know what they will blame this on though...RIP to the brave firefighters!
This SOB should never have been on the street to begin with. The fault lies squarely on the "justice" system where courts are much too lenient.
News reports are now saying it was a .223 Bushmaster, .38 revolver and a 12gauge.
Seems odd that both shooters would have the same make of rifle.

Only one solution. Arm the firefighters.

The fact that felons and murderers like him can get them actually makes the case for law abiding citizens to have them to protect themselves. They obviously didn't do a very good job protecting the general population from this diseased piece of feces.

They were probably excess rifles that never got shipped off to Georgia a few years back. Somebody found them sitting in a warehouse somewhere and thought to themselves " these are perfect for what we need them for".
But because Spengler had them [guns], two families are in mourning. Many of his former neighbors are homeless, because having a gunman on the loose slowed fire crews' efforts to corral a blaze that eventually destroyed seven homes.
sure, how would they draw and fire with all that gear on? time for the POL's to let the sheeple know.... no Fire or EMS response w/o police escort.
let the sheep arm themselves, which they won't.
btw: i did my internship with FDNY back in 2000, we had vests.
and "armed" fire department? um, no. it's a dangerous job.
*sarcasm/ i blame the Chicago Fire TV show for this one.
I'm still waiting to hear if they find bodies in the house he set fire to.
After Sandy Hook, I bet the media now classifies all AR-15's as a "Bushmaster .223". They probably have no idea that the type of gun pictured in that three-gun graphic during the Sandy Hook reporting can be manufactured by someone else.

I called this one, the TV news just reported that investigators found the remains of a second body in the burned house. [sad2]

This.
I think it wasn't so much an ambush to kill firefighters as it was they were interfering with his plan to burn down the neighborhood. Since he wanted to kill as many people as possible, the firefighters were just unfortunate collateral damage.
I agree with this. Unless it specifically mentions the firefighters in his note, or he had some ax to grind with the fire dept., then it is logical that he just shot them to keep them away to keep the fire raging.
