... Even us LEO's have a hard time deciphering all these crazy laws here in MA.

That may be the scariest thing I've ever seen posted here on NES... [thinking]

+1 on that.

I just came to the realization that the reason I don't spend much time on NES is because you guys are needlessly moaning and groaning about your darn gun laws. Real shooters, like Ninsho, move to New Hampshire.

We have one of the best, gun-law friendly states here in NH. But it gets better. Last session we lost by a hair a bid to go license-free, open or concealed. In the end, it was prevented only by outright corruption on the part of one senate critter. It's only a matter of time now--this law or one close to it, will pass. Solving the reciprocity problem by allowing NH shooters the optional issuance of ID, this law would have made NH even better than VT!

And our knife law, already passed, is now arguably best in the country.

Why are you guys still down there?

OK, it's not easy. Some of you still have jobs. I get that. But those of you who've been laid off, now is your chance. Look for jobs up here. And, because the cost of living is so much lower, you don't need $100,00 a year anymore. Food and gas prices are significantly lower. We have no sales tax and no income tax. $50,000/yr. up here is all you need. (But do make sure you're working in NH, so you don't have to continue paying MA state income tax.)

In the final analysis, however, don't you want to be up here when TSHTF? What will happen to you and your families if Boston has to evacuate? What a nightmare that will be. Wouldn't you prefer to be living up North here in an armed state before TSHTF?

How much time do you have? You'll need to be settled and, ah, "acclimated" up here well before TSHTF if you want to thrive. By "acclimated," I mean getting to know the neighbors, fitting in, and keeping your mouth shut until you gain some gravitas. In the meantime, plant a garden, store some food, and practice being more self-reliant.

If you still believe in voting, while that's still an option, it wouldn't hurt if you stopped voting like a wimp when you get here. (We constantly get people moving up from MA or CT who forget why they moved. Please, tell them to leave their big city voting pattern behind. Newbies forget that they don't live in a slave state anymore, and many continue voting like big city slaves, always picking the "lesser of two evils," which, by the way, is still evil. We need you guys to help balance the voting, too.)

When I moved here from CT, via the People's Republic of California, I was astonished at how friendly everybody was. While we were moving in to New London, a neighbor actually brought us a hot apple pie. Amazing. We shot off massive fireworks that first summer in our back yard. No one said a thing. I half expected the fire department to show up, but, no, it simply wasn't an issue. Then a neighbor went on vacation and left their front door open for two weeks. (Apparently they did it so we neighbors could come in and let their dog out.) Try that in crime-ridden MA.

I had my concealed carry in two weeks, even before having my driving license. North and West of Concord, there is little or no violent crime here. (Manchester and Nashua are still too close to MA for when TSHTF, so don't even bother living there. You might as well stay in MA.)

Make a clean break, and you will be free.

Got any high-tech headhunters to recommend, John?

Exactly. I'm a currently unemployed IT Project Manager. My wife has a chance at an excellent job in Cambridge with high pay and excellent stability.
The idea of being on Boston's doorstep, with all it has to offer is exciting to me as a dad. As a shooter, its less than exciting. Kids take priority at this point in my life.
Also, the IT job market is actually tight in Boston/Cambridge. I should be able to find a better job, that pays more, more quickly up there.

I've got no interest in the suburbs. I enjoy cities and the country. Can't stand the burbs. Since boston is too large to live rurally and still have a decent commute, its the city for us. For now.

The only up side is that we may try to keep our current home in CT for a while (1/2mi to duck hunting boat launch, 3 mi to private shooting area, 1 mi to rifle/handgun deer hunting, 5 mi to fishing in Long Island Sound), which will allow me to maintain dual residency, which will allow me to keep my silencers and machine guns.

The guns laws do suck. On the other hand, there is a lot of action shooting in the Boston area. The weekend before last there was an IDPA shoot at Pioneer in NH. Last Saturday, I was at an IDPA match at Harvard Sportsmen's. On Sunday, if I had the time, I could have shot USPSA at New Bedford or at Monson. This coming Sunday is the John Kelly Memorial Shoot at Harvard.

During this winter, I was averaging two IDPA matches per month. With the summer months, I'm closer to one per weekend.

Fishing in Boston Harbar is said to be pretty good these days.

Could you explain how dual residency works with gun owners? For example, if I owned a house in Nevada and also had a house in MA. That's something I'll be taking more seriously in the near future when I go to college out of state.....

I want my collapsable stock ar15 with magpul PMAGS!!!!

A friend of mine is a member of a club, I believe its harvard sportsmans. Its got a condo devellopment right next to it.

We went to a service rifle match.

They would loan you a rifle, your choice of an M1 or AR15 DCM style and give you the 50 rds of Lake City Ammo for something like $15 or $20.

I can't remember exactly. I had my own gun and ammo and it was $5 to enter. Fantastic. Great group of guys also.
Next time, I'm going to leave my AR at home and try one of their M1s and some manly 30-06 ammo.

Dual residency is very simple. You are a resident of both states if you own property or rent space for your use. You only have one DOMICILE, but you can have many RESIDENCES.

I move to MA and since that will be my domicile (or primary residence) I get all the credentials necessary to do whatever I need to do in MA with guns.
As a CT resident, I continue to maintain my CT resident pistol permit with all the rights and privileges that go along with having a CT pistol permit and residence.

There is no underhandedness or sneakiness to this. Its the law. You CAN have multiple residences.

Headhunters will just take your money. What do you need a headhunter for? You can pay me if you want. Tell me which positions you're qualified for, and I'll line up the interviews. You're a smart guy, have fantastic communications skills, and would be easy to promote.

There are lots of high-tech manufacturing jobs up here in NH, especially in the defense industry.

BAE (http://www.baesystems.jobs/job_startFrame.asp) is in Nashua, right next to Nashua Fish & Game, and also in Merrimack and Hudson. In Nashua they have no less than 10 positions open. In Hudson they have 6 positions open. And in Merrimack they have no less than a dozen open. I found all these in five minutes, just scratching the surface.

So don't think for a minute that you can't find high-tech work up here.

Obvious troll is obvious

The below was sent via personal message to a guy with a heart. Thank you, derek. I post it here for the benefit of others who might still think I'm a troll.

If anything a troll would take your side--derail the discussion, side track it, or hijack it. That's what they do.

Regarding josh2600's recommendation to ban discussion of one way of solving your gun law problems, no one's going to quit NES because they move to NH. There are lot's of us in NH on NES. We simply don't have to go to the gun law threads any more. There is still a lot to offer on NES not having to do with gun laws.

I really would like to answer dwarven1's and dcmdon's questions about head hunters for NH. And others might well step in and argue your side.

Please, sir. I'm not name calling, being rude, swearing, flaming, or breaking any of the NES forum rules. I am being honestly controversial, but what's so bad about that? Don't you want free and open discussion, as long as no one is advocating terrorism or violence? Isn't that what the forum is for?

Your actions bespeak a level of unfairness and arbitrariness not seen in a long time. I'm actually quite surprised that you are afraid to let this discussion take its course. Argumentatively, I've got the weaker position. How many NES members are really going to get up and quit NES because some are thinking to move to NH? I'll bet near zero. If you have the stronger position, why not let it develop?

Please unlock the thread.

Thank you for your kind attention.

This is really good info. Thanks for posting that, and for doing so in such a neutral, non-confrontational manner.

I'm certain no one on this site had any idea that NH was gun-friendly. And I'm equally certain the only thing keeping people from simply uprooting and moving North with all their belongings in the truck like the Beverly Hillbillies is that no one like you has stopped by to point that out.

Wow. If only you'd been here sooner.

Most headhunters paid for by the hiring firm, not by the prospective employee.

Thank you for correcting me. What that means, then, is that a candidate with no headhunter for the company to pay should have a leg up on other candidates whom the company would have to pay.

There is nothing in contract law to prevent the payment scheme I suggested. It's just unusual. I would suggest that it is more congruent in a free market.

BTW, that offer was only to Ross, whom I know and respect. It's not an open offer.

Sometimes yes, but quite often no. If I already have a good connection into a firm, then I'm going to use my network to get me in the door.

But if I don't have a connection into a large company, my experience with HR is that it is usually a black hole where resumes go to die. In addition, headhunters often know about opportunities at smaller companies that simply are not advertised.

I've been hired into three different small companies using headhunters, and I've interviewed many applicants who came to us through headhunters.

Headhunters can be very useful.

I agree with M1911 on how working with Headhunters works.

However, its interesting. Durring this recession, I've noticed that they are a lot less helpful. I'm an unemployed IT project manager with years of experience, excellent references and a lot of knowledge in a hot field (Life Sciences IT). And all they want to talk to me about is contract work.

It seems to me that the quality firms have hired 3rd party recruiters who put all the ads up on all the sites ( monster, linkedin, sfigurejobs, careerbuilder, etc).
Then the recruiters contracted by the hiring firm act as a first line of defense, perform phone screenings, etc.

I've not found headhunters to be useful this time around.

The last time I was out, in 2000, I simply picked up the phone and called the half dozen headhunters who had been harassing me for the last few years and got some resume's out.

Not so now.

I'm writing this while listening to the internet coverage of the riots around the globe. (In case the mainstream media is not telling you, it's not just Great Britain, Chicago, or Philadelphia that are having, or recently have had, what the BBC is euphemistically calling "disturbances." Not only the usual suspects Spain Greece, and Portugal, and the Arab Spring countries, but also Israel, Philippines, and China.)

(To be fair, the disturbances in Israel, Philippines, and China were politically/economically-driven, justifiable to socialists, and, except in China, not violent as far as I know.)

A sustained, criminal-driven riot is something that cannot happen in NH. I don't know about the other pro-gun states, but even the racially motivated, criminal thugs (like those who are currently looting Great Britain) would probably not be stupid enough to try that around here with armed storekeepers and customers all over the place.

And if they were that stupid, it wouldn't last for long.

I don't think it would happen in any rural area of the US. Including rural areas of CT and MA.

Tough to keep a good rioting spirit going when it's 16 miles between liqour stores

I agree, if only because of the low population density.

The thugs would be exhausted, low on gas, and then turn tail when they realize those things by the side of the road are actually trees, not a streetlight or convenience store for miles.

I'M ON THE WAY!!

I moved in June, you are pretty much right on. CCW in 9 days... 1/2 price for car insurance, 1/4 price for car registrations. Love it, Love it, Love it up here. Unfortunately I like my job in Mass but I'd switch for the right gig. Its funny what you say about Fireworks, I had the same experience. :)

Even in large megalopolis, armed pockets of resistance remain untouched.

Consider LA's Koreatown and many NOLA suburbs, where rioters did not dare go, lest they be subject to penalty of death.

I was just telling someone at work about Koreatown during the Rodney King Riots. Also recall the stories about Hollywood / Beverly Hills types going to gun stores to buy protection and incensed that they had to wait 15 days to take receipt of the firearm!
