Moving from PA to RI

We are transiting to RI because of my job. I have a hand gun and a 12 gauge shotgun. After reading the law and talking with a couple of folks, I think I can safely say I can bring my guns to RI provided the ammo and pistol are in separate places (moving van, truck, car etc). Once I get them here, do I need a lockable case or trigger lock while they are on my rental property? In PA, I kept it by my bed with the clip inserted but unchambered. My shot gun breach open unloaded hidden in my closet. Are there any rules as to having my weapons the same way in RI?

i'm sure I'll ahve more questions, thanks for indulging a RI newbie.

As long as you have no children in the house you can leave it unlocked,loaded and on the kitchen table. As far as transporting ammo and gun in seperate places out of reach for RI. Not sure about the other states you have to drive through though.

Regarding transportation from PA to RI, FOPA will cover your journey (18 USC 926A)

Regarding storage in RI, you must only prevent access by minors (R.I.G.L. 11-47-60.1)
