So my mom died in June. The house she lived in with my stepdad is in California. He has a shotgun, a 22 rifle and a pellet gun. He wants me to have them. He has to be out of the house in 2 months so we have some time to figure this out. Can he ship them to me via UPS or does he have to ship to a FFL for me to pick up there?

the pellet gun can be mailed as it is not considered a firearm

FFL to FFL would be the easy way out

My condolences on your loss.

Pellet gun can go direct to you via USPO, UPS or FedEx ground.

Real guns have to go to an FFL in MA for you to take legal possession. If the MA FFL will accept them from an individual, your Father can ship them to the MA FFL. If not (and many won't), he'll have to have a local FFL ship them to your FFL for the transfer. Interstate transfers between non-FFLs per Fed Law must use an FFL to avoid potential felony charges to both parties.

Sorry for your loss.

As others have said use an ffl. Call some in mass and tell them what you are transferring in and see if they will accept them. The pellet gun he can ship to you direct.
