Yeah... and it's a loaded/vague question, and its retarded, and I've been over this before long before you were here... so that's my answer.

Is he bad like yo man that's a bad ass car?
    Bad like naughty in bed?
    Bad like Michael Jackson?

Do you have a specific scenario with specific circumstances?

OK, you want a specific scenario.
You are waiting for a case where you are the arresting officer to be heard in court, you are watching the trial before yours.
Another officer is testifying in a case you are not involved in.
It's a minor case of shoplifting (larceny).
You have limited personal knowledge of the case, and no reason to be officially involved, but the officer testifying has told you some details, when you were talking just before the trial started.
The officer testifying lies about a minor detail (happens to be something you and he were talking about).
There is no clear way to tell if this particular detail will affect the outcome and while you know this detail is a lie, you do not know for a fact if anything else the officer said is a lie or the truth.

What do you do, if anything?

All the facts of the situation are there, a straight answer should be easy.
Remember YOU had the opportunity to comment without a specific scenario, this was your idea.

This was my idea? Lol... wow thanks for the warning dad.

Pretty simple. I pull him aside and call him out. Testalying isn't accepted in cop culture on a large scale, despite what you saw in The Wire. If he doesn't fix it, I'll let DA know. The reality is that my testimony about it should they decide to involve me will likely be he said she said and inadmissible as hearsay. We cool now broooooo?

What if you work midnight to 8 and your senior officer takes the patrol car home every night to sleep for 4 hours? And has done so for years? And you mention it to the sergeant and he tells you that you should be out patrolling your sector not sitting out in front of "officer Sleepys" house. Then you start getting anonymous citizen complaints to the chief that go in your file. And your backup never arrives when you are on a domestic. And your future ex wife hears rumors that you are having an affair while on your midnight shift (untrue). And you never get calls for OT that your junior offers are filling. And you realize half the dept is either a shit bag or just doesn't care, you know, go along to get along.
    Actual scenario

    Good answer.

"Testalying" isn't always frowned on, I know a detective that called out another detective and it basically turned into a [email protected] show when the department initially determined that the testifying officer had been "untruthful", but then at the CoP's request it was "re-investigated" and no problem was found. It just went downhill from there, I think the lawsuit is still in court, or they quietly settled.

So when a cop speaks out about misconduct they are shunned to the point they are forced out, that doesn’t sound like a strong enforcement for police having a generally honest and positive culture. Sounds a lot more like the whole system being corrupt.

So that's all it takes to dismiss criminal charges nowadays?? Why doesn't everyone do that instead of fighting it?

It's theft. Theft from the taxpayers.
It's no different than a cashier pinching from the cash register or a bookkeeper skimming from his clients.
Actually it is different. Cops are held to a higher standard and are presented as role models for kids and adults alike.
Teacher: Hey Johnny what do you want to be when you grow up?
Johnny: I want to be a police officer so I can lie on my time sheets and get paid to not work!

This thread has always been a roller coaster of civility for us NES members. It seems we are at a low spot. Can we bring it back on an upswing?

I agree. If we could stop criticizing law enforcement and let them do their jobs this post would be fine.
